Police Wives Association Pays Courtesy Visit to Retired AIG Morie Lengor

On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the Police Wives Association, led by Mrs. Matilda Doris Sellu, paid a courtesy visit to Retired Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Morie Lengor, Minister of Internal Affairs. This visit was a gesture of appreciation for his recent appointment as the first retired police officer to hold this prestigious position.

During the meeting, Mrs. Sellu expressed the purpose of their visit, congratulating Retired AIG Lengor on his appointment and extending heartfelt thanks to His Excellency Brigadier Retired Dr. Julius Maada Bio for entrusting him with this significant role.

In her address, Mrs. Sellu highlighted the various developmental initiatives undertaken by the Police Wives Association since she assumed leadership. She appealed to Minister Lengor for support in improving the conditions and well-being of police personnel.

In response, Minister Lengor expressed his gratitude for the recognition and warm visit. He stated, "The Ministry of Internal Affairs requires your support and cooperation to help us maintain this position." He encouraged the Association to submit their Strategic Development Plan and offered his assistance in identifying areas where he could provide support. Minister Lengor reassured Mrs. Sellu and her team of his commitment to collaborative efforts.

The meeting concluded with the presentation of a souvenir to Minister Lengor as a token of appreciation.

In a separate engagement, the Police Wives Association visited Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Mr. Sahr Yomba Senesi at Police Headquarters. They extended congratulatory messages in light of his recent appointment. DIGP Senesi warmly welcomed Mrs. Sellu and her team, expressing his gratitude for their recognition and reaffirming his ongoing support for the Association. The courtesy visit concluded with a group photo and the presentation of a souvenir.

IGP's Wife Intensifies Campaigns Against Drug and Substance Abuse.

On Saturday 1st June, 2024, the public education and sensitization campaign against drug and substance abuse, held at the historic Up-gun Round About in the East End of Freetown, has been hailed as impactful and unprecedented since the official declaration of a national emergency on drug and substance abuse by President Julius Maada Bio.
The attendees, numbering in the hundreds, from all walks of life, commended the leadership role displayed by the wife of the Inspector-General of Police, Mrs. Matilda Doris Sellu, in the fight against drug and substance abuse.

After the usual formalities, the Local Unit Commander of the Harbour Police Division, CSP Mr. Emmanuel Kpulun, welcomed Mrs. Matilda Doris Sellu to his division on her nationwide campaign against drug and substance abuse.

Several speakers, including members of the Local Policing Partnership Board, parents, husbands, wives, businessmen and women, Okada and Kekeh riders, and commercial vehicle drivers, recounted the devastating effects of drug use on their relatives. They collectively called on authorities to take action to eradicate drug use in Sierra Leone by disrupting importation, processing, distribution, sales, and consumption.

The hundreds of attendees who attended the mass anti-drug campaign organized by Mrs. Matilda Doris Sellu pledged to continue collaborating with the police and relevant stakeholders to eradicate drug use from their communities.

In a passionate speech, Mrs. Matilda Doris Sellu urged total cooperation and collaboration from community members to join the police in dismantling drug abuse and its related activities. She warned against stigmatizing drug addicts and victims and emphasized that "together, we can stop drug use and transform the lives of drug addicts."

The campaigner-in-chief against drug and substance abuse also warned school-going children to be cautious with whom they share food and drinks to avoid being intoxicated by friends.

In her closing remarks, Mrs. Matilda Doris Sellu appealed to the judiciary to take tough action on drug dealers and their associates. She also urged the government to establish functional rehabilitation centers countrywide to address the needs of drug victims.

The event was capped off by musical performances by artists from the Mile 91 Artists Union and a sumptuous takeaway meal and cold soft drinks served by Mrs. Hannah Gombo Sesay, the Mami Queen of the Ross Road Police Barracks.

Her latest initiative is aimed at providing safe and clean drinking water to Police Barracks, as part of her ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life for her colleagues Police Wives.

Recently, Mrs. Sellu has made another notable contribution by providing solar-powered borehole for her fellow Police Wives at the Lunsar Police Barracks. This is a testament to her commitment to supporting her colleagues and enhancing their living conditions.

Further developments are expected to follow as she continues to unveil new initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Police Wives.
