The Seventeen Sustainable Development Goals enshrined significant indicators for inclusive development, among those, including clean energy. The transformation of Africa demands the electrification of rural-urban communities. Energy continues to be the vehicle for economic growth, tourist attraction, and sustainable livelihood.

The attention of this medium is glued to the country's Minister of Energy. Alhaji Kanja Sesay is in constant pursuit considering the realization of the President's agenda - in-a-bid to facilitate the delivery of two power transformers and a huge quantity of volt-switch-gears or breakers to the people of Kono District.

The move is consistent with the immediate plans of the New Direction Government to connect the district to the TRANSCO/CLSG inter-connections system - to enable the city of Koidu, in particular, and the district to access uninterrupted electricity supply.

Welcoming the team to Kono, Chairman Council of Paramount Chiefs, P.C Emmanuel Foyoh described the consignment as massive, noting that, electricity was one of the daunting challenges the city and district are facing.

Moving forward, he praised President Julius Maada Bio for always thinking Kono district, adding that, his people were relishing the prospects of getting connected from the power surge - which will in turn have significant social-economic effects on the lives and the livelihoods of the masses.

Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Raymond Gbetuwa, said they had delivered two power transformers and some gear to the people of Kono, in fulfillment of a promise. Mr. Gbetuwa drew the attention of the people to the ongoing electric poles and the stringing of wires to help in the evacuation and distribution of quality electricity to homes and business centers.

Conclusively, he assured that, with the speedy rate at which the different components of the project were implemented, Kono will soon be connected to the CLSG interconnections.

Temporal Closure of the Justice Radio Station in Freetown

Thursday, 28 April 2022, Freetown. The Independent Media Commission, operating within the scope of its mandate, today activated key provisions in the IMC Act of 2020, and temporarily shut down the operations of the Justice Radio Station in the East End of Freetown.
The IMC was responding to numerous reports from the public and concerned citizens with respect to the (un) professional conduct of the radio station. One report said that Justice Radio was merely responding to provocation from other radio stations. During the IMC visit, this morning, we ensured that everything was done peacefully and, no one was arrested, as alleged.
The Complaints Committee of the IMC held an emergency meeting this afternoon to swiftly respond to the allegations. Tentatively, three clear issues emerged: a) professional conduct, b) proprietorship and, c) management of the station. Because ‘management of the station’ was critical (involving the other two), it was addressed, and professional conduct was partially discussed.
Hence the IMC would like to unreservedly assure radio listeners and other community people, in the East End of Freetown, that the matter is being vigorously investigated, in line with provisions in the 2020 Act, while the temporal ban, instituted this morning, on the Station, to stabilize the situation, has been lifted.
