The Former Cygnus Region saga came to an end with the ICC finale. After an exciting legal exchange between Radboud University and the University of Ljubljana, we have a winner: Radboud University! Sincere congratulations to both teams for their strong performances throughout the week.
We are grateful to our experienced judges — Ms. Beti Hohler, Dr. Vasilka Sancin, and Ms. Guillemette Blanc — for keeping the competition intense until the very last moment with their insightful questions.
We are pleased to see the improvement in all students’ performances over the course of the competition, and we hope to see many of them assume the kinds of roles they embodied in this week’s rounds in their professional careers (except perhaps purchasing weapons from the black market). We wish them all a safe return home.

The first two days of the preliminary and quarter-final rounds are behind us. We heard plenty of legal (and illegal) arguments while pleading in front of a gun barrel, before the ICRC, and in a UN conference setting — all of which made for a memorable experience for the participants and a great fun for the judges.
We are happy to announce that the semi-finalists are Pázmány Péter Catholic University, the University of Ljubljana, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and Radboud University. We wish them the best of luck!

The moment has finally arrived! All teams are in Ljubljana and the competition was officially opened with a round table »Frontiers of Humanity: IHL in Contemporary Humanitarian Crises« and an exhibition »Dialogues on Humanity«.
We are happy to notice that some arguments presented at the round table have also been used during today's preliminary rounds. More on those later!
We are grateful to Matic Poropatič for wonderful photos!

Final preparations are underway, and teams are slowly coming to Ljubljana. Let's hope they don't fly Aranian (it's quite an old advertisement, from a nicer time).

Only a few days remain until the competition begins!
This year, the orientation meeting will take place on Tuesday at 4 p.m., followed by a round table titled “Frontiers of Humanity: IHL in Contemporary Humanitarian Crises,” where speakers will shed light on how international humanitarian law operates in practice.
The evening will conclude with a reception hosted by the Swiss Embassy in Slovenia, which will also serve as the opening of the exhibition “Dialogues On Humanity,” produced by the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Photo Elysée — the photography museum in Lausanne — and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
After that, it is going back to revising the Case Study for the teams in preparation for the first round.

Attention all teams!
After assessing the memoranda that you submitted, the best teams have been selected to attend the oral part of the competition.
While the new loitering munition is being prepared for deployment, and having read your legal opinions, its use now depends solely upon the decision of the President of Ara.
In the meantime, it is essential that you carefully study the situation in the field, as per the Case Study that you have received.
Ljubljana is ready for you - it is now up to you to get ready for Ljubljana.

Attention all teams!
Due to requests for an extension of the final application deadline, the deadline for registration and submission of memoranda has been extended until Sunday, 5 October.
For universities that had trouble assembling their teams, the additional five days should be sufficient to address the evaluation question.
Universities that have already submitted their answers may submit a revised version by the same date if they deem it necessary. In such cases, only the final version will be evaluated.

Snowy mountains to the north, sunny beaches to the south…trouble in paradise? 🤔
