🌳 CAPTAIN'S NOTES
🔸️Adventure: P5 Learning Journey to Bishan Park
🔸️ Learning Objectives: Water & how it flows in SG
🔸️ Duration: 2 - 2.5 Hours
It's not often that we bring primary school children outdoors. But when we do, we try our bestest to give them space to explore and connect the dots.
Sometimes the children already know the theory behind something (in this case, water). When we bring them out, they get to connect what they know with how it's applied in the real world. And that's the 💡 moment.
That warm feeling I get when I see their eyes light up as they discover something new while exploring the water ways - seeing that spark in their eyes ✨️ - something I'll always cherish. Like how we see it in preschoolers. For a brief moment, I see how they must have looked like when they were waaaay younger. That unabashed curiosity & delight in discovering something for the 1st time. 🤗
🍃 That's how learning happens in the outdoors - to be able to experience & see for themselves; to know that what they've learnt in class is not just for a grade. The time spent outside becomes significantly more important than a head just buried in books.

Hello you! If you've just recently followed us & wonder what we do, scroll left to highlights of our adventures in 2024. 🥳
LLO is all about educator workshops (CPD), outdoor learning festivals, learning adventures and K2 Camps! We love love love being surrounded by enthusiastic educators and children, enjoying learning moments with all ages in the outdoors. The biggest highlight of 2024 would definitely be conducting Outdoor Learning Festivals x 2 (more than 200 pax, on the same day !!). 🌳🍃🌿🌞 truly grateful for these opportunities!

K2 CAMP SNIPPETS this time at a place that we love because of the many different spaces around! 🌞
While this location is different that our usual place, our camp goes the same way and pace. Tuning in, slowly getting used to the space, scaffolding and checking in with our K2 campers. Having high and downtimes... these are important to us and the campers (who might not be used to a full day of outdoors 🌳🍃🌿🌱) so that they are comfortable and are able to appreciate the spaces they meet.
And of course, most importantly they enjoy the camp with the friends they grow up with before going their separate ways next year!
Watching videos of them enjoying in the outdoor spaces = 😍😍😍. Their energy always 💯💯💯!

DO YOU KNOW? We conduct our Outdoor Learning Workshops for Educators in Chinese too! 💡 That way, the dedicated Laoshis can expand their knowledge and infuse language with the outdoors. [Swipe till the end to see what they did during the workshop!]
And yes, we do conduct our workshops in smaller batches too! It's especially useful for smaller based centres and for sessions during naptime. Sessions for english and chinese can be held concurrently too whether during naptime or not.
It's really up to you when. We're ready with the why, where, who and how 🤭.

IN & OUT
One of the questions we always get for our is - "Will it be outside all the way?"🤔
It truly depends on how gungho & sun-loving you are.
..We're kidding of course! 😁 Our workshops have a combination of indoor & outdoor segments to scaffold learning and share on some practical theories & ideas. The outdoor segment is mostly all about playing (and learn along the way)! 🎉
We always let children play so that they can learn. Same with us adults. In these moments of play & relaxation, we too learn and are able to apply what we've learnt.
Every educator session is exciting & exhilarating for us because we too get to learn from our participants! Seeing that spark & their 💡 lightbulb moments keep us going (swipe pics to see the different reactions of the educators!). Love it!

WHAT URBAN PLAY LOOKS LIKE
The thing about schools is - because they're meant to be in the heart of neighbourhoods & homes, the schools will be surrounded by urban features and fixtures. Outdoor play (to us) then becomes Urban Outdoor Play, where we go into the wonderful world of mostly concrete + green to discover & explore & learn & enjoy the outside.
Of course, to us adults it might just look like normal city 🏙️ neighbourhood things.
Through the wondrous eyes of children, it looks like a wonderful place for adventure! 💯
And we definitely agree with the children - any place can be adventurous! Which is why our Learning Adventures involve lots of movement, playing and imagination. A patch of grass can be so many different exciting 'islands'. Buildings can turn into headquarters or 'aliens'. Trees & huts can be spaceships.
..and Children?
In , children can just be themselves, all curious & inquisitive & ready to go! 🚀

The Outdoor Learning Palooza has been long in the works for us - we've always envisioned having an epic outdoor learning day, one that is a safe conducive space for educators to learn and choose what they want to learn in the outdoors. We're super stoked that we got to make this a reality!🎉
