Our sincere thanks to Soilbuild Pte Ltd for hosting our students at their Integrated Construction Prefabrication Hub.

As part of the B.Eng. Design Project and MSc Capstone Project, students from the NUS Civil Engineering programme - across the Infrastructure Digitalization & Management (IDM) and Structural Engineering (STR) specialisations - had the opportunity to see the production of 2D precast units up close and gain a better understanding of how design and manufacturing come together in modern construction.

Guided by Dr Paul Ong and Dr Kong Kian Hau, the visit helped connect classroom learning with real-world practice, giving students a deeper appreciation of precast concrete design and digitalised construction processes.

We are grateful to the Soilbuild team for their warm hospitality and for making the visit a meaningful learning experience for our students

Another batch of MSc (Civil Engineering) and MSc (Environmental Engineering) students successfully completed their industrial attachments at our partner companies, gaining hands-on experience in Singapore’s infrastructure sector and developing new skills that enriched their learning journey at NUS. 🌟

From Sirui, who gained experience in digital engineering, to Afeez, whose internship strengthened his ambition to drive positive change in the energy and environmental sectors, and Jiayi, who secured employment after graduation, our students had meaningful and transformative experiences.

We are grateful to our industry partners for their mentorship and look forward to future partnerships.

What sets NUS Master of Science in Civil Engineering apart?

We don’t just teach engineering — we nurture global engineers. 🌎

Through overseas exchange opportunities and industry-based attachments, our students develop academic depth, cultural awareness, and professional confidence beyond the classroom.

Hear from our Master’s students, Arockia Cyril and Jian Seng, as they reflect on how their recent overseas exchange experience enriched their academic journey, broadening their technical expertise and deepening their cultural perspectives.

Discover the global opportunities awaiting you with our Master of Science in Civil Engineering. Applications close on 28 February. Learn more at https://cde.nus.edu.sg/cee/graduate/coursework-based-programmes/

A student team from NUS CEE - Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) and University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) received recognition at the Global Sustainability Challenge (GSC) organised by the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. The team comprises Hiew Wing Yian, a PhD student from NUS CEE, and Lai Jun Tung, a Master’s student from USTC.

Competing in the Climate Adaptation category, the team was selected among the top 250 out of 845 teams worldwide to advance to Phase 2 of the competition. At the Asia-Pacific Regional Final held at Zhejiang University, their two projects achieved outstanding results - First Prize for Waste Mining and Second Prize for Zen Ascend.

Project Highlights:
🔹 Waste Mining (First Prize): A digital, microbe-powered system that converts food waste into clean energy and low-carbon materials, reducing emissions from both waste management and cement production.
🔹 Zen Ascend (Second Prize): A modular, sensor-enabled solution that detects early structural tilting in flood-prone housing, enabling proactive intervention and strengthening community resilience.

The Global Sustainability Challenge is an annual initiative that empowers university students to develop actionable solutions to environmental and social challenges through a three-phase process—Ignite, Build, and Shine—supported by expert mentorship.

The competition offers valuable exposure, allowing students to translate research ideas into real-world applications, gain international experience, and grow through interdisciplinary collaboration.

Our warmest congratulations to Wing Yian on her outstanding achievements and for representing NUS with excellence.
