Zoom

“Why are you studying Japanese?”
Students shared their personal experiences in response to this question.
We invited students from all over Japan—from Aomori in the north to Kagoshima in the south—who have participated in CLS summer programs and exchange events, as well as students currently studying abroad in Singapore. It was wonderful to speak with so many of you in Japanese! Thank you for this valuable experience. We look forward to meeting all of you again, either in Japan or Singapore!

Visiting JETRO Singapore 🇸🇬

With Prof Walker, CLS Director, we had the opportunity to visit JETRO Singapore which has been supporting us through exchanges with Japanese students and company visits for our Business Japanese class. Our teachers were nervous, but it was an incredibly valuable time. Seeing our graduates thriving in their careers was truly inspiring. Thank you so much for your precious time!

We received fantastic photos from Takikawa, Hokkaido. After six high school students visited NUS, they talked about their tour of Singapore on a local FM radio, and they seemed to enjoy talking about their time with NUS students. They had a winter event, Paper Bag Lantern Festival in Takikawa on 21st Feb, and they want to share with us more about their life in the snowy Hokkaido. Festival participants draw their own designs on paper bags to make lanterns. They filled paper bags with snow and placed candles inside. The paper bags were lined up in the morning and lit at 5pm, making it a one-night-only event that lasted just three hours. This year, approximately 10,000 lanterns were lit. It created a fantastical atmosphere, and upon closer inspection, some truly impressive lanterns were on display. It's difficult to convey the full scale of the event, but we hope you can feel it from the photos!!
