Night Festival's perfect 10
The SMU campus is one of five zones of the Singapore Night Festival grounds, which span all the way from Cathay Green and Chijmes to Armenian Street and Waterloo Street. The Festival, which runs August 18–26, celebrates its 10th anniversary with something old and something new. The attractions again include breath-taking projections over handsome old buildings, aerial performances, circus acts and museums with free entry and extended opening hours. However, unlike in previous years where there were major performances on both weekends, this year, all performing acts are consolidated into one extended weekend on August 24, 25 and 26.

The business of luxury brands
SMU Associate Professor of Marketing (Education) Seshan Ramaswami said that there are generally two groups of buyers of luxury brand goods – those who are affluent and those who aspire to social recognition. In Singapore, many young “aspirationals” have a higher disposable income because they live with their parents and save on living costs. In Asia, the Japanese and Koreans are established buyers of luxury goods and there are increasing numbers of Chinese and Indian buyers.
