The ASEFYLS Capacity Training 2026 and the Online Training Phase has officially started!😍

Thank you to the Copenhagen Institute for Future Studies (CIFS) and the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) for your support on the programme and for Mr Carsten BECK, Director and Futurist at CIFS and Dr Lizan E PERANTE-CALINA, Senior Vice President and Dean of the Graduate School of Public Management at DAP for delivering welcome remarks on behalf of the organisations alongside with Mr ZHANG Lei, Deputy Executive Director at ASEF.

Over the next coming weeks, our 96 participants come from diverse youth and student organisations across 48 countries in Asia and Europe, and together they will explore the topic of 'Anticipatory Leadership for a Human-Centred Future' in webinars, interactives exercises, and leadership dialogues - fusing theory, training, and action! 💪

This journey starts next week, where we will begin with the thematic sessions of the Online Training Programme with a webinar on 'Anticipatory Leadership Mindset'. 🧠

Last Wednesday, we opened the Webinar Series with a timely conversation on “The Role of Universities in Advancing for Good”, bringing together perspectives from higher education, policy, and global governance on how universities can help shape AI in ways that are ethical, inclusive, and socially responsive.

We are grateful to our opening speakers Mr Zhang Lei (Asia-Europe Foundation), Mr Li Changhai (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China), and Mr Jose Pintor Aguilar (Casa Asia, Spain), for their strong support to our work in ASEFInnoLab.

Our sincere thanks to Ms Trine Jensen (International Association of Universities), Ms Anja Gengo (UN Internet Governance Forum), Prof Simon Chesterman (National University of Singapore), and Dr Claudio Rivera (RTU Riga Business School, Latvia) for their rich, thought-provoking perspectives on the evolving role of universities as they navigate AI’s transformative impact against the backdrop of fast-paced disruptions.

The conversation continues next week.

How can universities help ensure that AI advances the common good?

This June, the Higher Education Innovation Laboratory ( ) opens its Trailblazers Webinar Series: Universities for the Common Good—a public webinar series exploring how higher education institutions can shape AI in ways that are socially responsive.

The series will bring together experts from the ASEFInnoLab community, alumni network, and partner organisations to share concrete practices, institutional approaches, and emerging perspectives on AI for good. Across four sessions, we will look at AI governance, responsible use in higher education, micro-credentials for an AI-powered future, and the changing landscape of learning and assessment.

We begin on 3 June 2026 with the Opening Session on “The Role of Universities in Advancing AI for Good”, where we will be joined by:

Education and higher education institutions play a crucial role in driving science diplomacy forward and preparing the new generation of science diplomats. But how can science diplomacy education be properly incorporated in university courses and programmes?🤔

These are some of the questions explored at yesterday's 'Science Diplomacy Education Symposium', on 20 May. Our speakers encouraged educators and academic institutions to get involved in shaping how science diplomacy is taught and practiced, positioning universities as key actors in advancing the field. 🏫

🙏 Thank you to everyone who joined the latest edition of the ASEF Lecture Series 2026 in Singapore, featuring Prof Wayne Holmes for a thought-provoking lecture on “Artificial Intelligence, Education and Human Agency: A Critical Studies Perspective.”

💡The session challenged dominant narratives surrounding AI in education, raising important questions about ethics, pedagogy, surveillance, equity, and human agency in an increasingly AI-shaped world.

ASEF Deputy Executive Director Mr ZHANG Lei opened and closed the session, thanking Prof Holmes for his insightful contributions and emphasising the importance of ensuring that education empowers individuals not only to use AI, but to think critically, act ethically, and exercise meaningful agency in a world increasingly impacted by AI.”
