JPJC celebrates JP alumnus Sun Kangyu, whose journey is a quiet yet powerful testament to resilience, gratitude, and the strength of family 💫
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Kangyu encouraged his father to pivot from the construction industry to food delivery when work came to a halt, a decision that helped sustain the family through uncertain times. Years later, that same journey came full circle when his father, now a Grab delivery partner, received news of the Emerald Circle Scholarship, opening a door Kangyu never expected to walk through.
Despite initial doubts about his chances, Kangyu took a leap of faith and was awarded the bond-free S$15,000 scholarship. Today, the NUS student pursues a double major in quantitative finance and computer science with greater financial security, allowing him to focus on learning, personal growth, and new opportunities beyond the classroom.
More than an academic achievement, Kangyu’s story reflects something deeper - the mutual support between parent and child, the dignity of hard work, and the courage to try even when success feels uncertain.

NUS student, 23, suggested to his dad to take up food delivery during pandemic, which led to bond-free S$15,000 Grab scholarship
The university student said he thought he did not stand a chance to get the scholarship, but applied for it anyway.

On 15 March 2026, the 8th Community Engagement Council, alongside nearly 200 student volunteers from various classes and CCAs, organised Chua Chu Kang Connect (CCK Connect), an amazing race style event, as part of the inaugural Jurong Pioneer Service Learning Fest (JPSLF).
CCK Connect aimed to allow residents to learn more about their neighbourhood, connecting to CCK Town’s motto of “Love Where We Live”. To do this, we brought students and community partners like the People’s Association together in the organisation of this event. The event also coincided with Chua Chu Kang’s Emergency Preparedness Day 2026.
The event was graced by Guest-of-Honour Ms Chua Wei-Shan, the Second Grassroots Advisor to Chua Chu Kang GRC Grassroots Organisations, and featured a plethora of booths and activities run by our students. The featured booths covered a myriad of themes such as Arts, Culture and History; Community Engagement; and Environment and Surroundings.
Indubitably, this was a memorable Sunday for not just the residents who participated but also for the student volunteers and teachers who worked hard in the many months leading up to the event. CCK Connect has allowed JPFam to develop critical competencies such as compassion, resilience, and responsibility, allowing JPFam to experience the infinite possibilities, infinite growth, and infinite love possible from such community events.

The inaugural JP Innovation Festival 2026, held on 15 April 2026, marked a significant milestone in bringing together innovation, service, and student agency on a single dynamic platform. Organized collaboratively by PW, STEAM, NESL, ECG, and Outreach, the Festival was made possible through the collective efforts and strong support of the entire school community. We were delighted to welcome 287 secondary school students from our feeder schools, alongside 90 parents who joined us to experience the vibrant learning environment firsthand.
The Festival served as a powerful showcase of student learning, creativity, and purpose. Our J2 students took center stage in sharing their journeys through Project Work, offering valuable insights into problem identification, ideation, and the development of innovative solutions to real-world challenges. Through their student-led VIA initiatives, they demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the community, while their participation in STEAM programmes reflected curiosity, innovation, and a passion for lifelong learning. These authentic experiences also strengthened key 21st-century competencies such as collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and leadership.
For our J1 students and visiting secondary school students, the Festival provided meaningful opportunities to learn directly from their seniors and explore how ideas can be transformed into impactful action. Interactions with community partners and external organizations broadened their understanding of social causes and inspired deeper interest in volunteering, service, and community engagement.
More than just an event, the JP Innovation Festival embodies the spirit of innovation, empathy, and purposeful learning. It is a celebration of student voice and agency, empowering young people to become confident changemakers who can create meaningful impact within their communities and beyond.
