There are many reasons why lessons conducted online are as effective (and for some students, even more effective) as physical lessons. Some of these general reasons, from our personal experience at SelectAs Tuition, are:
1. Students pay more attention because they are able to see themselves on the screen as well (such as on Zoom, where there is a small screen showing the user), and thus are more self-conscious when they see themselves spacing out or looking distracted.
2. The teachers and tutors are also more aware of their teaching styles and are able to immediately improve on it through glancing at themselves on their own screen(s) as well as from verbal and facial cues from the students.
3. Students are incentivised to work faster because many students are well-versed with technology and are motivated to make use of their tech-savviness to complete their work. (Computer time is often an enjoyable time for students.)
4. Students are not able to physically socialise with their friends at shopping malls and other recreational places, and thus many of them cherish the time spent during online lessons to interact and learn with their teachers, friends and classmates.
Do parents and students have other reasons as to why lessons conducted online have been effective or not effective? Please share them in the comments to this post below!
SINGAPORE β Having gone online since the circuit breaker started on April 7, tuition and enrichment centres seem unfazed by the news that they would have to remain closed until further notice.
