Too good to be true…? Well, it’s not - and I speak from personal experience that this exercise transformed my putting (saved it, actually!) and continues to help me to this day.

If you want to be a good putter, you need good speed control. Most golfers aren’t very good at this skill, primarily because they don’t give their brain the information it craves to help it determine how hard to hit a putt.

Poor putters spend too much time staring at the ball, trying to control their stroke and learning little about target. The best putters are absorbed by the target, with little to no care about their stroke mechanics.

Hitting good mid-distance wedge shots is an issue for so many amateur golfers.

It’s not a “small, big swing”, nor is it a “big, small swing”. This shot is truly a special shot which require a unique set-up and ex*****on. Get it right, and your scores will tumble, get it wrong, and your perpetual frustration (and high scores) will continue.

WRIST or NO WRIST?

Should you use your wrists for chipping and pitching?

This question is one of the most common ones I hear when discussing the short game and shots around the green with players looking to improve their short game.

The short answer is YES... but HOW YOU USE YOUR WRISTS depends on a few factors. It depends on what type of shot you are trying to hit. What the lie is like. Do you want the ball to fly high or low? Do you want it to stop close to where it lands, or release once it hits the ground. You also need to factor in what the lie is like and what the ground conditions are like, as well as any slope that you are playing from, or need to land your ball on.

The wrists are involved in EVERY single shot you hit in golf - even putting. Eliminating them completely is neither possible, nor desirable. Managing the wrists is the key to having success with your chipping and pitching around the green, and understand exactly HOW TO MOVE THE WRISTS will free you from the shackles of your one-way thinking when it comes to these shots and unlock an entire new world of possibilities when it comes to your shot selection around the green.

In this video, I will use the HACKMOTION wrist sensor to explain and demonstrate how the wrists move for 2 different types of shots around the green - LOW and HIGH - along with the set-up required for each shot.

"HOW TO USE THE BOUNCE"

That’s what all the best short game players do, right? But what does that term mean? And how can you benefit from learning to “use the bounce”?

Wedge bounce is the angle created between the leading edge and the lowest point of the sole or trailing edge. This is the area of the club that hits through the ground as it contacts the ball. The greater the wedge bounce degree, the higher the leading edge is off the surface at address. Having the proper wedge bounce and grind option promotes optimal contact, control, and ball spin.

Learning to “land the bounce” on the ground is the skill that separates the best short game players from those who struggle with making solid, consistent contact.

This video contains a coin drill inspired by PGA Tour player, Brett Rumford, and can help you develop the essential skill of low-point control and arc height/depth.
