The changes to the 2025 PSLE English Oral component, particularly the Stimulus-Based Conversation, have raised concerns among parents of children taking the PSLE in 2025. Notably, the weightage of the oral component has increased from 30 to 40 marks, making it more critical than ever for students to excel in this area to boost their chances of achieving an AL1.

To help parents and students understand the changes, a sample question has been crafted to illustrate how the Stimulus-Based Conversation will be structured and how questions will be framed.

The listening comprehension component now extends beyond simply understanding spoken content and answering related questions. Factors like reading speed and exposure to different accents—such as Received Pronunciation (RP), British, and American—also play a significant role.
