I did have some apprehensions regarding conducting Kalaripayettu classes at our studio - a modern studio (!) as my experience is a "kuzhi kalari" - which is a space or pit dug into the ground.
This substructure ensures cooling of the body as the exercises are gruelling and generate much body heat.
Although the mud in the arena is made compact, we still have to be prepared to look like kids who have been playing in a mud puddle...! the aroma of earth completes the experience !
But everyone brought in their wonderful energies and made steadfast efforts and we came away having enjoyed it!
Hmmm! Sigh of relief! Given the response and requests, we now look to making it regular classes!

Finally a longtime wish coming true!
Ever since my training in Kalari I have been wanting to introduce it to other dancers and students as a form of body-conditioning and discipline that will auger well for them.
So here we go!
First session is fully booked and we do the next for those who couldn't be included due to the social distancing criterias!
May we have all the blessings of the Gurukals and Ashans, who practised, preserved and passed down this invaluable tradition!

Swati Sougandhikam in Thiruvananthapuram turned out to be a satisfying experience!
Audience had to be turned away due to a full house! And what an august audience we had! Princess Gowri Parvati Bayi, Princess Gowri Lakshmi Bayi, illustrious film-maker Adoor Gopalkrishnan, Rajmohan Pillai, Vinita Pillai, Ajith Nambudari, Director ICCR Ms Madhur Roy many other dignitaries and artistes..
How the vibes of an audience can lift a performance! Many thanks to each and everyone who was there!
I thank Shri Soorya Krishnamoorthy for this wonderful opportunity. My thanks to Team Soorya for being so receptive to my suggestions and delivering like true professionals.

Children absorb like sponges!
The 3 fun-learning, immersive sessions were most rewarding when you see how much they have learnt and can re-call!
The quiz and rewards were their high-point! For me it was the satisfaction of having exposed them to a culture!
Now we look forward to the 10-15yrs olds! It’s their turn to benefit!
