As one of the 12 founding members of SMU, Professor Pang Yang Hoong showed us that there are unlimited ways to create impact.
As founding Dean of the School of Accountancy (SoA), Prof Pang helmed the School for 14 years until 2015. Under her leadership, she was instrumental in transforming SoA from its early days with a modest enrolment of under 100, to an institution reputed for its quality in accounting education and research today.
In recognition of her contributions, we have established the Pang Yang Hoong Scholarship which will provide financially challenged and academically-stellar SoA undergraduates with open access to resources, experiences and opportunities. With your support, we’ll help these students maximise their potential and inspire them to pass on the torch of giving back.

There are many ways to give back. One of the ways SoA alumnus Jeremy Phua, Audit & Assurance Partner, Deloitte & Touche, Singapore, does so is by giving his time and valuable advice to the students enrolled in the Audit & Assurance classes conducted by Senior Lecturer of Accounting, Dr Katherine Yuen. In four different classes spread over a week during the last term, Jeremy spent about half an hour each sharing his journey as an auditor. The crux of his message? GPA is not everything – it is important to maintain the right attitude at work!
