GTA is happy to partner Green Nudge again (after our successful Bedok Sustainability Trail!) this June to offer a walking trail in Woodlands conceptualised around the idea of sustainable transport. This is especially of relevance to those of us teaching the Lower Secondary syllabus (Topic 2.2 Transport Systems).
We will be having 2 runs of this trail this coming June holidays.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Appreciate and understand the eco-features that are built into our transport system and how we can make greener transport choices.
2. Develop an understanding of how our multi-modal public transport can help combat climate change and how improvements in our transport system can help us make the right choices to reduce our carbon footprint.
Details:
Dates: 5 June (Mon), 13 June (Tue)
Time: 9.30am to 11.15am
Duration: 1 h 45 mins
Trail Start Point: Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange
Trail End Point: Stellar@TE2
The start and end points are all walking distance away from Woodlands MRT Station.
Fee: $10 per participant (payment can be made either through PayNow or MOE IFAAS; payment details to be advised after the tour)

GTA SG is once again pleased to invite you to our Annual Seminar on 1 April 2023. The theme for this year's GTA Annual Seminar focuses on the Geographies of Care and Ageing in Singapore.
The seminar explores the myriad issues of health geographies and ageing in Singapore’s highly urbanised setting. Our panel of expert speakers will address a range of issues from the health trends of older populations to contemporary concerns on how space and place impact older people's health and health care. The seminar also aims to unpack the key geographical themes of spatial, relational and critical health geographies of ageing from different perspectives.
See you there!

Dear GTA members and friends, would you like to explore the Greater Southern Waterfront with like-minded Geography educators?
The Geography Teachers' Association of Singapore (GTA) will be organising a professional Learning Journey along Berlayer Creek and Labrador Park, where we will investigate the health of mangroves, explore urban rejuvenation and sustainable urban development of various landscapes and spaces around the Labrador Park area.
The Learning Journey will be led by Madeline Chen and Chee Wah, and aims to help fellow Geography teachers unpack key concepts from the Lower (2021) and Upper Secondary Geography (2023) syllabi.
This Learning Journey is planned to be of benefit to past participants to our Kukup Field Trip in 2022, and to new participants by offering place-specific knowledge of local fieldwork sites that you may wish to consider for your students’ field-based learning experiences.
Date: 11 March 2023
Day: Saturday
Time: 8.30am to 12.30pm
Cost of trip:
GTA Member Price: S$30

Have you thought of this part of the carbon cycle?
"Schematic model for deep recycling of carbon leading to formation of carbonated undersaturated silicate melts in the mantle. Oceanic lithosphere is subducted, transporting hydrothermally introduced carbonate as part of the upper, mafic oceanic crust."
