Quietly grateful today.
Some journeys don’t announce themselves loudly.
A student who once began at literacy zero has completed his PSLE and is moving on to a secondary school of his choice — not through DSA, but through steady academic growth.
Under the Yarn Spinners Approach, progress came slowly and consistently. There were no shortcuts, only patient work, revisiting foundations, and trusting that small steps accumulate.
This milestone is not about celebration, but about remembrance — that early struggles do not define the road ahead, and that growth often happens before anyone dares to believe it.
It also reminds us of the quiet responsibility we carry as adults: to remain present, to hold the line, and to walk alongside our children as their role-models, mentors, and guides.

PSLE Results Day: A Gentle Reminder
The morning of PSLE results is here.
A rite of passage for all children in Singapore.
Today, many will rejoice.
Many will be scared.
Many will cry.
Parents await with bated breath, hearts on pause.
Private educators stand poised, ready for the next move.
The mental demand is real.
The emotional well-being of our children matters deeply.
But in the midst of all this, please remember:
The result does not reflect the child.
It never has, and it never will.
A score cannot tell you how kind they are.
How hard they’ve tried.
How funny, creative, curious, resilient, or compassionate they can be.
It cannot capture their potential, their character, or their gifting.
As the envelopes open and emotions rise, may we hold space for every child—
the ones who celebrate,
the ones who tremble,
the ones whose tears fall quietly.
And may we, the adults in their world—parents, teachers, private educators—
respond with wisdom, grace, and steady reassurance.
Because what our children need most today
is not a number,
but us.
Our belief in them.
Our calm.
Our love.
Our reminder that this is just one moment, not their whole story.
Let’s walk this day with gentleness.
Let’s help them hold their heads high.
Their journey is only beginning.
Be our children’s role-models, mentors and guides.

Nineteen years ago today, I stepped into the world of Educational Therapy—and what an incredible journey it has been. At Yarn Spinners, we believe every child carries a story within them, one waiting to be gently shaped, strengthened, and supported.
My greatest joy has always been watching children who once felt small, unsure, or defeated rise up and discover the threads of potential woven inside them. Many have pushed through their challenges and grown into confident, capable adults—and they continue to inspire me every single day.
To all my students—past, present, and future—know this: I believe in you, your story, and your ability to rise. Always.
~Be our children’s role-models, mentors and guides.~

Literacy is for all, but it doesn’t come easily to all. While literacy is a lifelong skill, for some it is a lifelong challenge.
At Yarn Spinners, we recognise these truths about literacy:
• Some children pick up reading naturally—they see words and quickly make sense of them, reading fluently at an early age.
- For them, regular access to books and encouragement keeps their love for reading alive.
• Others struggle with decoding—a child may know their letter sounds but cannot blend them smoothly into words, making even simple texts tiring to read.
- Structured phonics and multisensory learning can make decoding easier step by step.
• Some students excel in comprehension—they can read between the lines, infer meaning, and enjoy stories deeply.
- Rich discussions, questioning, and exposure to diverse texts strengthen this skill further.
• Others find understanding difficult—a child may read aloud fluently but cannot retell the story or answer questions about it.
- Guided reading, story mapping, and visual supports can help them connect words to meaning.
• For some, writing flows easily—their thoughts pour out in organised sentences.
- They flourish when given authentic writing opportunities like journaling or storytelling.
• For others, writing is laborious—they may stare at a blank page, unable to spell words or structure their ideas.
- Graphic organisers, word banks, and sentence starters provide scaffolds for success.
• There are children who shine in oral language—they tell stories with flair and confidence.
- Their strengths can be harnessed through drama, presentations, and class discussions.
• But some remain quiet or hesitant—not because they lack imagination, but because retrieving the right words takes effort.
- Gentle prompting, vocabulary building, and alternative ways to express themselves (like drawing) can open doors for them.
These examples show that literacy is not one-size-fits-all. It can be a lifelong gift for some and a lifelong challenge for others. That is why Yarn Spinners is committed to guiding every child—whether literacy comes easily or requires patient, structured support.
As we celebrate International Literacy Day, let’s remember: literacy is a gift best nurtured with understanding, empathy, and guidance.

Today is Teachers’ Day. To my friends who teach, counsel, guide, nurture, scaffold, thank you and have a happy Teachers’ Day.
May your students honour you and show you gratitude for your heart work of growing their young minds to their fullest potential. Your noble work has seen their growth in different forms. Some bloom beautifully, plain for all to see. Some growth is steady and quiet, building resilience. Some growth is hidden beneath the surface, but that is where their roots deepen and their foundations strengthen..
Your heart work and hard work make all these kinds of growth possible. Though not every change is visible, you know the impact you’re making in your students’ lives.
So I honour you too! Have a Happy Teachers’ Day!
