In my strong era ๐ช๐ป๐๐ผโโ๏ธ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ
On my vision board for this year (yes I did one ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ๐ฅฐ) I had the picture of a badass, strong woman lifting in the gym.
I have been lifting since I was about 15 (as S&C for speed skating) and did it more or less regularly until about 10 years ago when I started to get really into long distance running. Many times I tried to get back into it, but would find excuses and just stop after a few weeks.
With this year being a big milestone (**cough **cough 40 ๐ฌ), I knew I should make it a PRIORITY. And so I did. What kicked start it all was starting my job at and training for 6 weeks with ๐คฉ I fell back in love with lifting and I now NEED it in my daily life.
For those who are interested, I am currently doing a 4 days split of GBC (German Body Composition) Training (Google that!). Each workout isnโt more than 40-45 min and I have two days with upper body focus and 2 other days with lower body focus. Nice and simple.

More than one month since the Boston Marathon. Iโve been back in Singapore for more than a week.
I do not have any race lined up and it is by choice. People often tell me they admire how much I can juggle at the same time ๐
Well to be honest, I often look back and canโt believe it myself.
But lately, it came to a point where I have been feeling overwhelmed: new job, new life, new plans while still having to maintain stability for my kids.
Every day brings new challenges but also new exciting prospects I could have only dreamed of before.
So right now, I am just trying to go one day at a time while having faith that things are taking me in the right direction.

Thanks to my new exciting job at I have been back lifting more consistently and seriously with my amazing PT ๐ช๐ป
I did not realise how much I needed it. I knew that with 40 knocking at my door it had to be a priority, but the experience so far has been eye opening in more than one way.

Great run this morning before celebrations and beach time with the girls ๐ง๐ป๐ง๐ปโค๏ธ
Iโm particularly happy with how my threshold efforts ( a pace I could race at for 50 to 60 minutes) are improving consistently ๐ช๐ป

Especially washing the dishes. This never solve ANYTHING (apart from the problems associated with having dirty dishes laying around).
I'll take a tough tempo run around the park any day instead... and a dishwasher please.

Running is a big part of my self care/stress management strategy. I remember feeling quite lost when I was not running during both my pregnancies (for a few reasons I might talk about at some point).
Thankfully I could exercise a bit but it wasnโt the same.
That also enabled me to find other ways to ground myself and control my thoughts: spiritual practice, hobbies, gratitude journal, etc
But really, nothing beats a good run to sweat your worries away โบ๏ธ

Interval Training vs Steady State
The age old debate ๐
Check out my latest blog post on this topic.
Spoiler alert: both and it depends ๐๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ

Do you agree? ๐คฃ
Are you always bored on runs?
๐
โโ๏ธSome purists will tell you to only run with the sound of your breath and nature... but yeah nah ๐
๐Interval workouts usually tend to go by faster because your mind is directed towards keeping tab on the time/intervals and the effort at hand.
๐Steady state runs can usually be a bit more of a struggle for some.
๐ฅTo make my runs go by quicker I love:
๐คPodcasts: I will make a specific post on podcasts soon, stay tuned
๐ผMusic: especially for road races
Love me some trance/house/80's-90's
๐Audiobooks: I get mine from the Singapore National Library on the Libby app. I especially like sports people biographies and political commentary.
๐ฏI personally always run on my own, but running with a partner or group definitely helps to beat the boredom.
What's your favourite way to make the miles ๐ฆ
(or KM's๐) go by faster?
