This week on Spotlight: Discover how a chance encounter on the MRT inspired a new Local Service initiative at our East Campus.

When two migrant workers asked Grade 11 student Vedansh where they could play cricket in Singapore, he realised there were very few accessible spaces for them to enjoy the sport. Wanting to change that, he worked with fellow students Akshaj and Arnav to launch Connecting Through Cricket. The programme brings students and migrant workers together on the campus field, creating a space for connection and belonging through a shared love of the game. Find out how this initiative is breaking down barriers and giving participants a piece of home here: uwcsea.edu.sg/spotlight/story/2025-2026/connecting-through-cricket

Last week, students from Dover and East took part in the Hyundai Go Green Hackathon 2026 at Temasek Shophouse, an innovation challenge that brought together young changemakers to develop and pitch solutions for a more sustainable future.

Five teams represented the College, with three advancing to the final pitch session after a full day of ideation, collaboration and presentation. Along the way, our students earned recognition for their creativity and problem-solving, receiving honourable mentions, including Most Innovative Project and Best User Experience.

Talk about creativity under pressure! It was all quick ideas, collaboration, and building on each other’s thinking to push ideas further. We are proud of all our students for their creativity and energy, and grateful to our staff colleagues who supported them throughout the experience.

A massive thank you to our Parents’ Association (PA) East team and the incredible parent volunteers at East!

A celebration as momentous as Graduation takes a village to bring to life, and the PA team began their preparations over six months ago to ensure every detail was perfect for our Grade 12 leavers. From assembling pennants and 300 individual gift bags, to ushering families at the NUS ceremony and acting as photographers for the graduates, their dedication was felt at every step of the day. They even transformed the Tent Plaza into a beautifully decorated venue for the evening celebration, managing vendors and setting up flowers and fairy lights from the early hours of the morning!

We are so grateful for the entire PA team and 15 parent volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this milestone so special for the Class of 2026 and their families.

From exploring sustainable energy and protecting coral reefs to rethinking waste, food systems and the future of our planet, our Dover Grade 5 students took centre stage at this year’s Grade 5 Expo.

As the culminating experience of their Primary School journey, students spent weeks leading their own inquiries into environmental challenges and the innovators working to create positive change. Through engaging presentations and interactive exhibits, they shared not only what they learned, but also the actions they can take to help build a more sustainable future.

Thank you to our students, teachers, and community members who supported this inspiring showcase of curiosity, creativity and action!

Two weeks ago, our Primary School students celebrated Global Outdoor Classroom Day by spending more time learning, exploring, and playing in the outdoor spaces across East.

Across the week, classrooms spilled into gardens, playgrounds, and green spaces around campus. Students held morning meetings outdoors, practised Spanish while visiting the chickens, climbed trees in the Rain Garden, built shelters from giant leaves, and set off in search of worms and other creatures. One highlight for our youngest learners was baking animal cookies and enjoying them on Survival Island before continuing their outdoor adventures.

Outdoor Learning is a regular part of life at UWCSEA, giving students opportunities to observe closely, work together, take on new challenges, and engage with the world around them in different ways.

Our East Dragons Circus had an absolutely incredible time at the Singapore Flipside Circus Festival last weekend. The students performed at the Esplanade to a crowd of over 500 people, showcasing a brilliant mix of physical theatre, comedy, and traditional circus skills. It was a fantastic celebration of all their hard work, and we are so proud of the show they put on.

If you missed it, the good news is that they have been invited back to do it all over again this weekend. They will be performing at the Esplanade Courtyard on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 from 5.30pm–7pm. It is completely free to attend, and everyone is welcome to come down, cheer on our students, and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere.

The circus has been a beloved part of our College community for over 13 years. Beyond being great entertainment, the programme encourages resilience and teamwork while continuing a long-standing partnership that supports the Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation in Vietnam.

We hope to see you in the audience this weekend!

As our Grade 11 students in the Initiative for Peace (IfP) programme are in the midst of their transformative journeys to Timor-Leste, we wanted to share this look back at the 2025 conference.

This trip is the culmination of months of learning and planning. In the video, you'll hear firsthand accounts from the students and educators involved as they step outside their comfort zones to facilitate peace-building activities and collaborate on sustainability initiatives. Watch them engage in deep dialogue and build meaningful, cross-cultural connections with students in the capital, Dili, creating an entirely reciprocal experience that breaks down barriers and fosters true empathy.

To dig deeper into what this experience means to our community, discover how this flagship programme lays the groundwork for becoming an active peacebuilder here: linktr.ee/uwcsea
