🔵 Our students represented the school at the 19th United Cup Chinese Composition Competition. We are pleased to share that three of our students managed to clinch awards!

HS Debate Challenge Finals

🔵 Our English Department had its 2026 HS Debate Challenge finals which showcased the critical thinking, eloquence and persuasive skills of our Secondary 4 Express students. They debated two thought-provoking motions: whether Singlish should be phased out in favour of Standard English, and whether Singapore society values grades more than character.

🟡 The finals took place after two weeks of intra-class rounds where the best speakers for each motion were selected to represent their class for the finals.

🔵 Our speakers demonstrated confidence, teamwork and the ability to construct well-reasoned, evidence-based arguments before a panel of judges.

🟡 Congratulations to all finalists, winners, runners-up and Best Speaker award recipients for their outstanding performances! We also thank our judges, teachers and audience members for making the event a meaningful celebration of public speaking and intellectual discourse!

2026 North Zone Schools Chinese Speech Competition

🔵 We are pleased to share that our students have achieved outstanding results in the 2026 North Zone Schools Chinese Speech Competition.

🟡 Congratulations to Gao Hong Pei (4E) for winning Third Place, and Lan Zhen Hang (4E) for receiving the Most Promising Speaker Award.

🔵 Their achievements are a testament to their hard work, dedication, and passion for the Chinese language. We are proud of their accomplishments and hope that this experience nurtures their enthusiasm for the Chinese language.

🌏HS Internationalisation Chapters ✈️

To kickstart 2026’s Internationalisation Chapters, the English Department of Hougang Secondary School 🇸🇬 hosted the school leaders, staff and students of Chungbuk National University of High school (CBNU) in February 2026. 🇰🇷

Together staff and students from both institutions participated in technology-mediated English Language Programmes and an English Language and Literature Poetry Trail along local destinations such as The Singapore River.

As we head into the June Holidays, the English Department will be heading to the campus of CBNU and Seoul with our Hougeans where they will be participating in a myriad of programmes curated by the English Department in conjunction with CBNU.

Congratulations to Our Sahibba Team!

🔵 Our students represented the school at the Pertandingan Sahibba Huruf Hara (Malay Language Scrabble Competition) held at Pei Hwa Secondary School.

🟡 While competing against students from 40 other schools, our students displayed teamwork, resilience and strong language skills throughout the competition. We are proud to share that our Lower Secondary Team achieved 🏆 7th position, while Muhammad Faris Fathurrahman Bin Rahman from 2O was awarded 🏅 6th Best Individual Player!

English Language Drama, Debate and Speech (ELDDS) Drama Production

🔵 Last month, ELDDS-Drama students delivered a powerful performance at the production play. 🎭

🟡 Centered on standing up against school bullying, the piece profoundly captured the shared struggles of students, from the weight of external expectations to the impact of unkind online comments.

🔵 We are very impressed by our students’ remarkable ability to deeply reflect upon this difficult topic with the GREAT school value of respect and empathy. We hope that this performance influences others to show more thoughtfulness and care when interacting with others!

HS Sports Carnival 2026

Different class colours. Loud cheers. Non-stop energy. One Hougean family 💙💛

🔵 The 2026 HS Sports Carnival brought Hougeans together for a day of fun at Nanyang Polytechnic. From intense dodgeball matches to spirited 6-7 Showdown games and exciting relay races, our students greatly enjoyed the friendly competition that brought out their teamwork and resilience. The creative class cheers and enthusiastic supporters along the sidelines ignited our school spirit through unity, passion and pride. The carnival was filled with unforgettable moments and meaningful experiences for every participant.

🟡 Beyond the games and results, what truly stood out was the camaraderie shared among classmates and schoolmates. Our staff, Parent Support Group (PSG), parents, and our alumni were also enthusiastic participants! As a school, we cheered one another on, gave our best, and showed what it means to be part of the Hougang Secondary family. It was especially heartening to see parents joining in the event and experiencing the energy and spirit of the carnival alongside our students!

🔵 A big thank you to all staff, PSG members, parents, alumni, student leaders, volunteers, and participants who contributed to making the event a success!

Together, we truly lived out our G.R.E.A.T values through sports.

Achievements of HS Red Cross Youth

🔵 It is with great pleasure to share that our Red Cross Youth CCA has achieved the Gold Excellent Unit Award 2025! 🏅

🟡 Also, congratulations to Liu Zhiyu Felicia from 4E on receiving the 🏆 Director’s Award 2026, the highest accolade in the unit! We are proud of you and hope our students also aim to continuously challenge themselves and achieve excellence! ✨

🔵 In other exciting news, our Principal, Mr Lee, graciously joined us in badging our incoming Secondary 1 members during this significant enrolment ceremony. We wish our new members a meaningful journey as they began to learn what it means to be young leaders who commit to helping others in need.
