Dressed in their No. 1 Ceremonial Uniform, they stood tall and carried the school’s name with pride before Guest of Honour Ms Jasmin Lau, Acting Minister for Manpower and Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Digital Development and Information, and Adviser to Ang Mo Kio GRC GROs.

🟡 A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated NPCC alumni volunteers who gave their time to coordinate the parade, and who also served as Parade Commander and Contingent Commander during the observance ceremony.

🇸🇬 Hougang Secondary Celebrates Singapore’s 61st National Day! ❤️🤍

🔵 This week, our Hougang Secondary family came together to celebrate Singapore’s 61st National Day through a series of meaningful learning experiences, student-led activities and school-wide celebrations.

🟡 The week began with interactive booths organised by our Uniformed Groups, where students participated in a variety of hands-on activities such as exploring Urban Operations and learning basic first aid skills.

🔵 Throughout the week, students took part in meaningful National Education experiences, from learning about the leaders who shaped Singapore and reflecting on the significance of citizenship, to exploring our nation’s journey since independence and sharing their hopes for Singapore’s future.

🟡 Students also enjoyed the interactive assembly programme, ”Padang Lah!“, where they discovered the history and significance of one of Singapore‘s most iconic landmarks. Through the programme, they gained a greater appreciation of Singapore’s heritage and the stories that have shaped our nation.

🔵 The celebrations concluded on Friday with our annual National Day Parade and Concert. After months of preparation, our Uniformed Groups marched with confidence and pride, demonstrating discipline, teamwork and commitment. The school also came together to recite the National Pledge, sing our National Anthem, and reflect on the values that unite us as one people. The concert featured lively performances by our talented Choir and students, creating a joyful atmosphere as the school celebrated Singapore‘s birthday together.

🟡 As Singapore celebrates 61 years of independence, we are reminded that every generation has a part to play in building our nation‘s future. At Hougang Secondary, we remain committed to nurturing students who contribute positively to their community and uphold the values of Gratitude, Respect, Empathy, Adaptability and Trustworthiness.

🔵 From all of us at Hougang Secondary School, we wish everyone a meaningful National Day as we come together in the spirit of unity, continue to Go Together, and strive to Go Beyond.

Majulah Singapura! Go Beyond!❤️🤍

STEM Playground Challenge 2

🔵 Our budding HS engineers embraced the STEM Playground Challenge 2 – Water Wheel, where imagination powered innovation! 🌊✨

🟡 Using everyday materials, students collaborated to design and build a water wheel that could harness the flow of water from a bottle and spin continuously for at least 5 seconds.

🔵 Through experimentation, teamwork, and iterative improvements, they strengthened their problem-solving skills, resilience, and engineering mindset.

Every spin was a testament to the power of creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning! In HS, we are proud in supporting our students’ growth in confidence and competence.💡💙

Hosting of Guangzhou No.2 High School

🔵 Hougang Secondary School had the privilege of hosting Guangzhou No. 2 High School for a meaningful two-day educational exchange programme!

🟡 The programme began with a warm welcome ceremony with our Principal Mr Lee. Thereafter, our visitors enjoyed breakfast together with our friendly Hougean students, getting to know one another before some ice-breaker games. The visiting students were later paired with their Hougean buddies, which comprised of STEM Leaders and students involved in the upcoming Guangzhou Internationalisation trip.

🔵 Throughout their visit, our guests immersed themselves in authentic school life by attending classroom lessons and participating in CCA experiences. They also enthusiastically engaged in our very own HS STEM learning programmes such as Autopots, a 3D printing workshop, and InnoLab Makers’ activities alongside our students.

🟡 The visit concluded with a farewell session that celebrated the new friendships forged and the valuable learning experiences gained by both schools. Our students and our visitors left the experience with a better understanding of another culture and a greater sense of respect, reflecting Hougang Secondary School’s commitment to nurturing globally-minded students.

We look forward to visiting Guangzhou No.2 High School soon and opening more doors to further learning and development together across borders!

🎉 Racial Harmony Week 2026: Our People, Our Tapestry 🎉

🔵 Last week, Hougang Secondary School celebrated Racial Harmony Week, embracing the diversity of cultures, languages, and traditions that make our school community vibrant and inclusive. Through a series of meaningful activities and shared experiences, students and staff came together to deepen their appreciation of Singapore’s multicultural heritage, strengthen mutual respect, and reaffirm our commitment to fostering harmony and unity in our everyday interactions.

🟡 This year’s theme, “Our People, Our Tapestry,” reminds us that just as every thread strengthens and beautifies a tapestry, every individual plays a part in weaving Singapore’s vibrant multicultural identity.

🔵 We were privileged to welcome Mr Muhammad bin Ismail, Chairman of the Jalan Kayu Harmony Circle, who shared meaningful insights on embracing diversity, practising cultural sensitivity, and fostering harmony within our community.

🟡 To mark the occasion, students donned traditional cultural attire representing Singapore’s diverse ethnic communities and enjoyed a nostalgic traditional games booth organised in collaboration with our Parent Support Group. From five stones to pick-up sticks, these familiar games sparked laughter, meaningful conversations, and a deeper appreciation of the traditions that have connected generations.

As we celebrate our differences, we are reminded that racial harmony is built through mutual respect, understanding, and everyday acts of kindness. Together, we continue to strengthen the bonds that unite us and embrace the beauty of our diversity. ❤️🤝
