Another variation 🏉 for Number Starter

Attempting to breakdown the game (AFL) into meaningful and essential elements for my Year 4s. This format allows students to observe peers, mix abilities in gameplay, allow teacher to conference a teachable moment, and provide novelty because team numbers are rarely the same through consecutive games.

In this variation, we encourage quick movements to beat the opponents to the ball, then outrun them by utilising the flanks.

👈🏻LEFT/RIGHT👉🏻 While the main aim isn't developing ambidextrous students, practising with both sides of the body could be developmentally beneficial for young children.

🌋The trick is to portray the activity as a fun challenge!

Partner Up! ✌🏻Preparing pre-primary children for the upcoming carnival. One of the events call for balancing a toy egg on a long spoon in a relay race but why stop there during practice?

I made some modifications to the rules to include cooperative elements 👥 1 partner holds 2 spoons while the other partner help to load the eggs onto the spoons and place their hands under them to catch them if they fall. 🧠 Balancing with both hands also places high demands on their coordination which will help them balance better with one hand later 👀 It worked a treat! 🍬

Sky above ☁️ sand below 🏖️peace within 😌

This is the first school where we have our own sandpit! I've been working on my students' basic long jump form and they have been so receptive and it thrills me to witness their growth and progress! 📈

Basic form cues I used:
1️⃣ Sprint
2️⃣ Upright & take-off
3️⃣ Arms up
4️⃣ Drive arms down

I'd like to ask for sharing of ideas on teaching long jumps to young children. Pls DM if you're willing to give me some advice!

Partner Lilypad 🐸 It is better to make many small steps in the right direction, than to make a great leap forward only to stumble backward. - Old Chinese proverb.

Jumping and hopping practice while working with a partner. While preparing for the carnival, more games are planned to help the young ones work on cooperation and partnerships🙌🏻

Don't drop the ball 🔵 As the Faction Carnival day draws closer, practice & learning heats up. This week, we reworked on the basics of Shot Put with all students. I'm dead beat after trying my best to guide/correct every single student.

Funny story: I was trying to demonstrate the glide back on Monday, and I lost track of my strength so the rubber shot flew over a fence and into the school's chicken coop. Everything went into slow-mo as my class and I held our breaths until we saw it plummet into the sand. 🐔We were all relieved to share with you that no chickens were harmed. 🥚

⬆️Rising up to the challenge⏫

🎾Exploring various ways to manipulate a short implement. In this instance, students balance a ball on a short racquet from a seating position to a standing position. They try it with different hands, speeds and held on to different areas of the handles. I find it important not to stress which is the dominant hand when working with children below 10 years old. I just refer to 🖐🏻 one hand and other hand ✋. This way, my students become accustomed to working on both sides of their bodies.
