If you haven’t yet read Chales Eisenstein’s series of recent essays, you’re missing out on some of the best commentary of this human moment that I’ve found. He conveys a deep understanding of our current situation with a beautiful nuance, lacking in most other perspectives I have read.

I’ve always been a heretic, it’s nice to finally own it publicly. As I sink fully into the idea, I find I’m also rather enjoying all the drama + chaos of this moment. Who knew it would be so horrifying to watch this all unfold?!?

I’ve never been one for scary movies, but I must admit, seeing it all emerge in this convincing illusion we call reality is INCREDIBLY exciting.

Am I going to make it out alive?!? Spoiler alert::
nope, [haha, none of us will] but I’m going to ride these waves as far as they’ll take me. The crazier things get, the more I believe is possible.✨

A wizard I know once said something so simple yet profound, it led me to this understanding::

fear + hate are shallow, they have no depths, but love has an infinite capacity for expansion

Love is a force you just can’t f**k with.

Becoming a mother changes you at the deepest levels. When the realization finally set in after finding out I was pregnant, I was hit with a tidal wave of fear. I went from feeling carefree to feeling an immense vulnerability because now I had this life inside of me that I had to protect from all the horrifying tragedies of this world. An innocent, nearly helpless life completely dependent on me + my husband for every aspect of its survival. Luckily, the transition also filled me with a ferocity which I can engage, when needed, to protect those I love.

I do not live in fear, though I have ample access to it. I use it to remind myself what humanity is experiencing on a grand scale. I remember that virus fear-porn is the drug of choice these days + I use my own fear to remain empathetic even as I witness choices I don’t agree with. I know intimately the sensations that coerce people into giving their power away to someone who might protect them from danger. To let go of that idea of safety around us can be absolutely terrifying.

But here's the thing...
I trust nature. I trust the cycles of life, beginnings + endings + beginnings. I trust the eternal immutability of the soul as it weaves its way through the illusion of linear time. I trust that we’re all exactly where we need to be to learn the lessons our souls came here to learn + when we're done with this lifetime's lessons, we'll move on to what's next.

That doesn’t mean I’m immune to grief. Grief can + does overtake me at times + I've learned to let it take me completely. Grieving allows me to stay intimately connected to my suffering + the suffering of others as an integral part of experiencing wholeness in this paradoxical reality. Grieving helps me remember that I'm on this earth to feel the entire spectrum of human emotions. It reminds me of the beauty buried in sorrow.

Let's break free of the echo chambers, touting the message that says we need to police + control each others' behaviors. Turn off the programming + reclaim your voice. Our power, to make great change in this time, lies in where we choose to place our focus.

There are thousands of brilliant inventors, scientists, doctors, engineers + environmentalists that have found solutions to nearly ever problem we're experiencing on earth. When we turn our gaze away from the political theater + towards these humans, asking them what we can do to help, we take our power back.
