Our alumnus Reaksmey Yean from Cambodia has been awarded The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program—a prestigious Fulbright exchange programme sponsored by the U.S. Department of State—and will spend the next ten months in Washington, D.C., affiliated with the American University Washington College of Law.
Awarded under the Human Rights field, this fellowship offers the ideal time, space, and intellectual community to deepen his work at the intersection of law, art, culture, and human rights. Reaksmey's specific focus will examine international cultural heritage law, cultural rights, art law, restitution, and repatriation. Congratulations Reaksmey and we wish you every success in D.C.!

The programme is delighted to support the inaugural Asian Art Histories Conference to be held on 26 September 2026. Titled Reframing Narratives, it is convened by MA Asian Art Histories alumna Theresa Tan. The presenters for the inaugural edition are all alumni of the MA programme. However, there are plans to extend this conference to postgraduate students in other Singapore institutions. You need to register by scanning the QR code on the poster. The fee is refundable.

Four of our alumni recently graduated with a PhD. Ramesh Ramakrishnan (Nanyang Technological University); Adulaya Hoontrakul (Tokyo University of the Arts); Eunice Lacaste (Nanyang Technological University) and Anna Koshcheeva (Cornell University). Adulaya Hoontrakul is currently the director of Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre. Heartiest congratulations to all!

Day four. We visited the Kyushu National Museum. Opened in 2005, it is only one of four national museums in Japan. Beautifully located within a natural setting, the focus of its collection and display is on pre-moden Japanese art and intercultural exchanges in the region. We were given a backroom tour of the museum, including its conservation facilities. I was impressed by some interesting practices, such as displaying the results of a poll of its top ten artefacts and a space where you could interact with the objects.
