*Go Checkmate Students at the 24th ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championships 2026*
The 24th ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championships 2026 was a long and challenging international event held in Singapore, and several of our Go Checkmate students took part in the *Standard U08 category.*
Overall, we are happy with the performance and effort shown by our students. Playing a long international tournament requires not only chess skills but also patience, concentration, stamina and the ability to handle different levels of pressure over many rounds.
At the same time, we understand that a few students and parents may feel disappointed with the results. The biggest challenge for many of our students was the long duration of the tournament, which made it difficult for them to participate. Most of our students were unable to join this time because of the extended schedule.
*Special Mention – Shaurik*
We had high expectations for Shaurik, and he was in a strong position to finish around 3rd place and achieve the CM title. Unfortunately, in the penultimate round, he drew a game where we were hoping for a win, and in the final round, he lost.
It was certainly disappointing after such a promising tournament, but these experiences are also an important part of a young player's development. The pressure of the final rounds, especially in a long international event, provides valuable lessons that cannot always be learned during regular training.
*Individual Support Throughout the Event*
Behind the scenes, we were closely following our students' games and giving *individual attention and guidance* throughout the tournament. We reviewed their positions, identified mistakes and looked at areas where they could improve.
We are also very happy to see the amount of effort our students themselves are putting into their chess. Participating in a long international event, staying focused round after round and competing against strong players is a valuable experience.
*Looking Ahead*
Results will not always come immediately, but with consistent training, tournament experience and the right mindset, we believe our students will continue to improve.
We can already see more excitement, confidence and interest among our students, and we are confident that more and more positive results will come in the future.
For us, every tournament is not only about medals and titles. It is about building stronger players, stronger minds and giving our students the experience they need to perform at a higher level in the years ahead.
