🇵🇪 The 3rd country of Season 3—Peru! 🇵🇪

That week (actually in February), we made Chaufa de Quinua, a delicious dish featuring quinoa, a grain native to Peru. 🌾✨

Did you know? The word chaufa comes from Chinese and means "fried rice"! This dish was introduced to Peru by Chinese immigrants in the 19th century. While rice is still commonly used, Peruvians sometimes swap it for quinoa, adding a local twist!

🎊📣A big thank you to Nilo for your heartwarming video message, filled with special memories of your favorite dishes. The students loved it—and your smile! 😊💛

✨ First Week of Global Cooking Season 2!

Even after 7 years, the first week always brings a mix of excitement and nervous energy as we prepare to kick off a new season! 🎉

This week, we made Shirini Keshmeshi, a delightful Persian-style cookie crafted with raisins, butter, flour, and sugar. These soft and chewy treats are perfect for tea time and are a staple during Nowruz (Persian New Year) celebrations. 🌸🍪

📣A huge Mersi! to our Persian ambassador, Nazanine, for sharing video message with us. 🌟

Looking forward to connecting and getting to know each other over the next 9 weeks! 😊✨

🇹🇼 Did you know you can make Tapioca Balls (BOBA) with just three ingredients: Tapioca Starch, Brown Sugar, and Water? Simply stir them together on the stove, roll them into small balls, boil for 35 minutes, then simmer for 15 more minutes. That’s it!

Boba tea, also known as pearl milk tea or bubble tea, originated in Taiwan 🇹🇼 in the early 1980s and is known for its chewy tapioca balls that pair perfectly with tea😋

Since we were short on time at school, we made the tapioca balls, and the kids took them home to taste. How did they turn out?🤗🤗🤗

📣📣Big thanks to Anna for an engaging and informative video presentation as our Taiwanese ambassador! 🎥🇹🇼

🇮🇩 Nasi Goreng – One of popular Indonesia’s National Dishes! 🍳

Nasi Goreng is a simple yet flavorful fried rice dish, featuring rice with a little bit of meat, garlic, and onion.

What makes it unique? The secret is in the sauce! It’s made with kecap manis😋, a sweet soy sauce that turns the rice a rich, dark brown and caramelizes it as it cooks. 😋

Topped with a sunny-side-up egg 🍳 and served with fresh cucumber and tomato on the side, it’s a meal in itself!

Our students had so much fun chopping and frying! This hands-on experience will surely boost their confidence to cook at home. 🍚🔥

Terima kasih🙏

🌎The 2024-2025 Global Cooking season is finally here. This marks the 8th year of Global Cooking at UWCSEA-East Campus.

Over the years, more than 9,000 children have participated in this program. We sincerely hope that the lessons they’ve learned about different cultures through food will stay with them and inspire them to become future Global Ambassadors.

We are looking forward to meeting many more wonderful children this year as well. Come and join us! 😊😊

🤔Have you heard of this superfood, Tempe (or Tempeh)? 🤔

It’s a traditional 🇮🇩Indonesian food made from fermented soybeans, created through a natural culturing and controlled fermentation process that binds the soybeans into a cake form.

To celebrate the final week with parents, we made 'Tempe Orek'—fried tempeh coated in an irresistible kecap manis (sweet soy sauce) glaze.

👏What an incredible journey exploring 32 different cultures through food in 2023-2024! We’re excited to continue the adventure in 2024-2025.😍

✅Actually, this is from the final week of last season. Sorry for the late post!*

🌮 Quesadilla and Pico de Gallo! 🎉
Easy, tasty, and a hit with kids, these Mexican treats are a must-try!

Our quesadillas feature a cheesy filling wrapped in a warm tortilla, while zesty pico de gallo salsa adds a burst of flavor with every bite. 🍅🧀

Our students had enjoyed chopping veggies, whipping up pico de gallo, and sizzling tortillas on the pan. Well done, everyone! 👏

Special thanks to Elsa for her fantastic talk about Mexico! We all loved your warm smile! 😊 🇲🇽✨

🎉 Happy New Year! 🎉

We kicked off the new season: Season 3 is officially underway, and our students dove right into celebrating with a delicious tradition: Dumplings! 🥟

Dumplings hold special significance during Chinese New Year as they resemble money pouches, symbolizing fortune and prosperity for the year ahead. 🧧💰

Our students put an efforts into crafting these culinary treasures, meticulously rolling out each wrapper from scratch. 🙌🏼

Big round of applause to all our amazing students! 👏🏼

Here's to a fantastic holiday season for everyone!

🇬🇵Have you seen this flag before?

It sparked a journey of discovery into another culture!😳

Meet the flag of Guadeloupe, a breathtaking overseas region and department of France 🇫🇷 nestled in the Caribbean. 🌴

In our culinary adventure, we crafted an Upside-down Pineapple Cake—an invention to inspire using more canned pineapple by baking it upside down! 🍍

The result? Caramelized sugar and pineapple magic on top. Guadeloupeans elevate it with rum and lime zest.

Flipping the cake from the tray, and trust us, the excitement is real! 🎉

Big shoutout to Tessa for being our Guadeloupe ambassador, broadening our horizons to new flavors and cultures! 🌎

Holland or Netherlands? 🌍 It's a great question to start with when learning about this country!

The Netherlands has 12 provinces, and 'Holland' refers to just two. So, when talking about the country, it's 'Netherlands'!

🎄 In December, we whipped up some pepernoten, a delightful Dutch cookie associated with the Sinterklaas holiday.

Oven scenes = Christmas vibes! 🍪✨

Thanks, Cindy, for repping the Netherlands as a Dutch ambassador! 🇳🇱
