Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) are an integral part of student life at Regent Secondary School. The past two weeks have been an absolute blast for our Secondary One students, who had a taste of our school’s vibrant CCA programme through four sessions of CCA Experience! They had the opportunity to participate in an exciting line-up of experiential activities planned for them by student leaders from our Uniformed Groups, Clubs and Societies, Sports and Games, and Performing Arts CCAs.
It was certainly an enriching time of learning and exposure for our Secondary Ones, who will now face the enviable task of deciding which CCAs to pursue as they journey onward in Regent!

In Week 1, our Secondary Three and Four students were given the opportunity to Re-Discover their strengths and passion to pursue their dreams through our “REgent-Discovers Aspirations” programme. The planned programme aimed to give students greater exposure to the world of work, to take charge of their career planning and development as well as to have greater exposure to tertiary education.
This year’s programme was kickstarted by a series of meaningful sharing helmed by various industry speakers from diverse industries such as Legal, Aviation, Healthcare, Business & Accounting, Engineering, Food and Beverage, Cybersecurity as well as Hospitality and Tourism.
This was followed by an eye-opening experience at this year’s polytechnic open house visits. The Secondary Four students visited Nanyang Polytechnic and Republic Polytechnic while the Secondary Three students visited Ngee Ann Polytechnic. These learning journeys allowed them to interact with enthusiastic poly student facilitators and enjoy various hands-on activities. Jayden Tan from class 4-Respect shared that the polytechnic experience was enlightening and allowed him to make wiser decisions about post-secondary school options. Other students, such as Jerome Chan from class 3-Gratitude, also found the experience very insightful as it exposed them to more polytechnic courses.
All in all, students agree that the ECG programmes have reignited their resolve in “rediscovering” their strengths and purposeful pursuits!

On 12 January, we gathered as a school to celebrate Boys’ Brigade (BB) Day, which commemorates the founding of the Boys’ Brigade in Singapore. A hush fell over the crowd as our boys from the 91st Singapore Company marched into the hall, looking smart in their uniforms. Standing proud and tall and in tight formation, they led the school in the singing of the National Anthem and the taking of the pledge. Regenites were treated to a video montage thereafter, which showcased the uniformed group as well as its many activities.

It was an exciting start to the school year for our Sec 2 Cohort! As part of our Week 1 Orientation programme, our Sec 2 cohort students visited the Air Force Museum on 3 January 2024, Wednesday. For many, it was their first time there.
In line with the theme of the week, which is Re-discovery, students experienced first-hand the struggles and challenges the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) faced and how it had to quickly adapt to the changing air scene to become the formidable and first-class line of air defense we know it to be today. The visit comprised the outdoor gallery, which showcased the different types of static aircraft from past and present, and the indoor gallery, which contained various interactive activities for students to learn about the functions within the aircraft used by the RSAF. AlI in all, it was an eye-opening experience for the students who gained an insight into the force that keeps our skies safe!

To welcome our Upper Sec students back from the holidays and to provide opportunities for quality interaction and class bonding, the students went to visit different parks and gardens around the island for their class outings. Despite the incremental weather, the students and teachers enjoyed each other’s company and it was a pleasant start to the new school for our seniors of the school as they ventured to the Botanic Gardens, Marina Barrage and West Coast Park.

The orientation week marks the beginning of our Sec 1 students as new inductees into the Regent Family.
Throughout the past four days, the Sec 1 students have blossomed from shy and quiet individuals into confident young ladies and gentlemen as they discover more about the school and classmates through the mass games and Amazing Race around the school. The Sec 1 students have definitely shown resilience completing the challenges throughout the orientation.
What’s an orientation without a fitting finale? The pouring rain did not dampen the Sec 1 spirits and they enthusiastically showcased their class cheers and dances in front of their parents and teachers and we ended the night with a rousing rendition of the school song. Just like the fire that was ignited tonight, we hope that all the Secondary One Regenites will continue living out our PRIDE values and blaze forth to glory as they start their new journey here.
Kudos to teachers and student leaders who made all these possible!

On 14 November, our Secondary Two and Three students had the wonderful opportunity to attend a workshop on spoken word poetry.
Organised by Singapore Chinese Girls’ School in collaboration with Project VOICE, the masterclass saw participants engaging in a discussion on poetry with award-winning spoken word artist Phil Kaye. Our students picked up useful tips on drafting their own poems and learnt more about creating their own imagined futures through writing.
All in all, our young writers had an enriching time of learning and interacting with participants from schools across Singapore!

An exciting day of learning at Gardens by the Bay!
On 26 October, our Secondary Two students headed down to Gardens by the Bay for a day of learning and exploration. There, they competed against 9 other schools in a Race to Sustainability. Students explored the Gardens to look for clues and answers to an online activity sheet, which helped to instill a better appreciation of Gardens by the Bay’s conservation and sustainability efforts to combat climate change. The Race tied in closely with the aims of our Secondary Two Science curriculum, which has a running emphasis on the impact of human actions on the environment.
Students were also able to apply what they have learnt in Mathematics at the Gardens! With a measuring tape in hand, they were tasked to complete problems that involved taking measurements and calculations around the Gardens. This hands-on activity allowed students to appreciate how Mathematics can be used in real-world scenarios.
They were also able to apply literacy and writing skills acquired in their Mother Tongue classes in crafting a short write-up to describe their experience at Gardens by the Bay.
All in all, our Regenites had an enriching learning experience at the various conservatories at Gardens by the Bay, and were able to see how their knowledge can be well-utilised in real world contexts.
