PAL Journey in HGP

PLAY encourages creativity and imagination. And we are super impressed with these kids' creativity!

In our P1 PAL Dance module, our students learn about the concepts of personal space and shared space, about creating movements through a variety of shapes and forms and how they can create dance steps to express positive emotions.

More importantly, they are also learning how to act responsibly by displaying positive emotions for themselves and others, exhibit social awareness by showing respect for their classmates, learning how to recognize and manage their negative emotions and listen and communicate more effectively with their peers through dancing.

It does not rain but pours! Even though not all the groups get to catch a glimpse of our bridge at the Sengkang Riverside Park, they did learn how and where to seek shelter and assess and manage the risks involved in outdoor activities under inclement weather. We even had a quiet moment to appreciate and observe the trees and birds in our park (and even a squirrel spotted by the blue group on the bridge) who came out to find food. Many more to come!

Learning Journeys to Parks in our neighbourhood is back after a long hiatus! In getting the students to exhibit curiosity in things around them, we not only hope that they learn how to orientate themselves in the park, we also hope that they develop a better appreciation of the sights and sounds, the flora and fauna of the park safely in the Outdoors. This is also part of our learning outcome in Outdoor Education in PE, that is to visit a park near the school and in turn develop a sense of place while learning to assess and manage risks. And we hope the students had a good experience doing so!

And to all our P2s, a very warm welcome back! As we move into a 2023 with all the easing of the SMMs, we also hope to bring back more group works as well as learning journeys to nearby parks where they can develop a sense of place and belonging, because we know you will protect what you love, especially where there is a connection!
