Haque Centre of Acting and Creativity 07/12/2015

Last Saturday, one of our members attended a highly experimental acting workshop- "Meyerhold’s psycho/physical training", also known as Theatrical Biomechanics at the Hague Centre of Acting and Creativity.

The workshop conducted by Christopher Jacobs and Ralf Rauker,
focussed on heightening of one's kinaesthetic awareness and movement through space, utilising gestures and body language in group interactions. What made this workshop unique and memorable, was its emphasis on applying simple rules of physics and biomechanics in preparation for performance; ‘putting oneself in a state of readiness’.

The second half of the workshop saw participants applying these frameworks into practice in creating their own, individualised, ‘Seven Ages of Man’ Étude (All the world’s a stage’ speech from Act2 Scene7 of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It”). The final act was in which each participant stood rooted to the ground, using only bodily movements and expressions to experience living through the first childhood to his second. It was a deeply enriching and intense experience that resonates like none other.

The member would highly recommend anyone who would like to develop his/ her craft in acting, especially through physicalisation and movement to check out courses by the Hacque Centre of Creativity.

Their next intake runs from Jan 2016 and Early Bird Promos end on 12 Dec. Check out the link below.

2 more tips:

1. P = p - I

Performance = potential - Inhibitions

2. One way to lean a song fast-
Hum!

Glee musical singing lesson with Ms
Elaine Chan on 5th May begins:

First off!
Review of individual's singing techniques and style (karaoke):

1. Dynamics and technique: be aware of "pushing the voice" (producing a harsh tone) versus belting.

2. Pitch issues: "tone deaf" can be a result of maladjustment to a different pitch as compared to a previous

3. Repertoire selection: at least one fast song, one slow song should be in everyone's repertoire. Dancers naturally have a stronger advantage over

4. It's all about Breath support. One's
ability to deliver slow songs are testament to one's technique in breath support and engagement. Fail to support well and the pitches will waver and slip!

and more juicy tidbits!
