Going through EAE can feel high-stakes, but not getting a spot is far from the end of the road. 💡

In the final clip of our series, an anonymous student shares key advice for anyone navigating the process: don't let stress rush your decisions, and remember that limited intake spots do not define your future. (Note: Speaker has asked to stay anonymous.)

The best question parents and students can ask before choosing a course: Where do I see myself after completing this diploma?

How can we better support our teens when they are making major academic choices at 16?

In Part 3 of our series, an anonymous university student reflects back on choosing a polytechnic diploma out of duty to her parents, and why having open conversations about future alternatives would have made all the difference. (Note: Speaker has asked to remain anonymous.)

As parents, we naturally want our children to choose a "concrete" and secure path. But rather than deciding for them, the most helpful support is exploring the "what-ifs" together.

Big choices do not have to be scary when teens feel heard and guided through all their options.

What happens when your teen realizes early on that their poly course isn't for them?

In Part 2 of our series, an anonymous student shares the exact moment she realized HR wasn't her path: from struggling through general business modules to finding a tiny spark of interest in psychology. (Note: Speaker has asked to stay anonymous.)

Realizing a choice wasn't the right fit at 16 can feel scary for both students and parents. But even when a course isn't a perfect match, it often provides the clarity teens need to discover what they actually want to pursue.

When Plan A falls through, teenagers often carry the weight of uncertainty on their own. From managing course rejections to worrying about meeting parental expectations.

In Part 1 of her story, an anonymous student opens up about facing course rejection, feeling confused about her path, and why she took her backup choice in Human Resources (Speaker's identity kept anonymous at request).

As parents, supporting a teen through EAE doesn't mean having all the answers or pushing a "safe" route. Sometimes, it just means helping them explore their options so they feel confident in their choices.

The EAE journey does not have to feel so scary when your teen knows they are not facing it alone.

When it comes to EAE or DSA interviews, most students may try to prepare questions by guessing the panel wants to hear. But interviewers has talked to hundreds of applicants, and they can easily spot a memorised script.

What actually impresses them? One of our youths mentions she did not give model answers, but instead, shared about what she was genuinely passionate about.

By sharing a real story about facilitating a youth camp and connecting it to her passion for community development and psychology, she allowed the panel to understand her for who she was and what mattered to her.

If your teen is preparing for EAE or DSA, encourage them to focus less on scripting the "right" answers and more on understanding their own strengths, interests and experiences.

Authenticity and self-awareness often leave a much stronger impression than a polished script.

Want your teen to gain more clarity about themselves, their passions and different career pathways?

Join us at our upcoming Praxium Career Panel, where students can hear directly from professionals across a range of industries, ask questions, and better understand what different careers are really like. Admissions are FREE for all.

“DSA video essay – where do I even begin? 🎥”

Instead of simply listing his achievements, Ignatius built his video around a clear story:

➡️ What did he do?
➡️How did he grow as a leader?
➡️How did he help others grow?
➡️What lasting impact did he create?

He then connected these experiences to ASRJC’s values and explained how he could contribute to its community.

For parents, the most helpful question may not be, “What achievements can you include?” Instead, ask:

“What changed because you were there?”

Your teen’s most compelling story may be hidden within an experience they are genuinely proud of – and your guidance can help them recognise and articulate it.

Watch as Ignatius breaks down the EXACT approach behind his DSA video essay. 👀

“Should I even apply for DSA? 🤔”

Ignatius was initially reluctant. But after speaking with his seniors and friends, he realised that his four-year leadership journey was something he was genuinely proud of.

That reflection led him to apply to ASRJC through DSA Leadership.

Parents, your teen may not need an immediate answer from you. Sometimes, they need the space – and the right questions – to recognise the strengths they already have.
