A warm welcome to our 2026 Primary One Gabrielites!✨
On 24 November 2025, we had our P1 Orientation. While parents attended an informative session with our Principal, our incoming students were engaged in classroom activities.
New beginnings, bright smiles! We look forward to having them officially join our big Gabrielite family!

2025 Tamil Department: An Overview - Deepavali Assembly Show
The Deepavali Assembly Show took place on Tuesday, 7 October at St Gabriel’s Primary School. The event aimed to educate students on the significance of the festival for Hindus and Sikhs, deepening their understanding and appreciation of Deepavali.
Students enjoyed vibrant performances of traditional Indian folk dances such as:
• Poikkal Kudirai (Horse Dance)
• Lamp Dance
• Kolattam (Kolatham)
Some students even had the exciting opportunity to learn a few steps directly from the artistes, making the experience even more interactive and memorable.
During recess, the celebration continued with kolam making and storytelling sessions in the library, allowing students to further explore Deepavali customs and stories.
The event successfully promoted cultural awareness and gave students a meaningful glimpse into the rich traditions associated with the Festival of Lights.

2025 Tamil Department: Aa Overview - External Competitions
To provide our students with platforms to showcase their talents and abilities, our Primary 1, 2, and 3 boys were given the opportunity to participate in the Pongal Colouring Competition organised by Tamil News during the Pongal Festival.
Students who were more enthusiastic also took part in various competitions organised by Community Clubs and other external organisations.
We are proud of their courage to step forward, and we commend them for their hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication.

2025 Tamil Department: An Overview - Annual Tamil Internal Literary Competitions – July
The Annual Tamil Internal Literary Competitions were conducted in July, with all students participating at their respective levels. Each level took part in a different category designed to develop language skills and creativity.
Categories by Level:
• Primary 1: Reciting a Nursery Rhyme
• Primary 2: Character Portrayal
• Primary 3: Storytelling
• Primary 4: Advertisement on Energy Conservation (Saving Water / Electricity)
• Primary 5: Radio Podcast – Healthy Lifestyle (food, exercise, active ageing, self-care)
This event aims to develop key 21st Century Competencies—Creativity, Critical Thinking, Information Literacy, and Communication—through the meaningful use of the Tamil Language.
The Preliminary Round was held in Term 3, Week 2, from Tuesday, 8 July to Thursday, 10 July, and all participants received Certificates of Participation.
The Finals took place a week later, where the Best Performers from each category were presented with trophies in recognition of their outstanding achievements.

2025 Tamil Department: An Overview - Speech and Drama Workshop for Primary 2
Many of students come from non-Tamil speaking backgrounds and feel hesitant to use the language, often worrying about making mistakes or sounding funny. To support our Primary 2 students, the Tamil Department organised a Speech and Drama Workshop aimed at building confidence in communicating in Tamil.
Through engaging and fun activities, students learned simple sentence structures and practical ways to use Tamil in their daily lives. The workshop provided a safe and interactive environment for students to practice speaking, express themselves creatively, and gain confidence in using the language.

2025 Tamil Department: An Overview - Racial Harmony Day Activities
As part of Racial Harmony Day, students had the opportunity to learn about and experience a variety of traditional local games, including those commonly played by the older generation before the arrival of computer games. These activities introduced students to games from different cultures in Singapore, helping them appreciate the rich heritage behind each one.
Students explored games such as:
• Diabolo (Chinese Yoyo)
• Five Stones
• Pick-Up Sticks
• Kompang
• Horseshoe Walking
• Marbles
• Sadugudu – an Indian catching game
• Yukeluli, and many more
Through these games, students developed a deeper understanding and appreciation of the traditions of the various races in Singapore. They also discovered that there is much more to play than just computer games – traditional games are fun, meaningful, and help build both physical and mental strength.

2025 Tamil Department: An Overview
Primary 3 Cultural Exposure
In addition to the Mother Tongue Fortnight activities, the Primary 3 students were given the opportunity to learn about the traditional Indian folk dance Oiyillatham. This experience allowed them to appreciate the rhythm, coordination, and cultural significance of the dance, further enriching their understanding of Indian performing arts.
