🌟 What is ASHR — and how can your child work towards the next milestone?
At Kumon, children progress by ability, not age. Through the Advanced Student Honour Roll (ASHR), Kumon learners who are learning ahead of their school grade level can be recognised for their steady effort, confidence and progress.
From this year, Kumon learners can also look forward to the new December Medal Journey — a meaningful way to celebrate continued learning and achievement.

Many children can complete work when someone guides them. ✏️
But what happens when no one shows the next step?
Is extra academic support helpful? Yes.
Guidance can give children structure, clarity and confidence when they are stuck.
But in today’s world, children also need something just as important:
the chance to think, try, make mistakes and continue. 🌱
When learning is always guided, some children may get used to waiting for help. Before they even try, they may say:
“I don’t know how.”
Self-learning helps build something deeper.
It helps children look for clues.
It helps them stay calm when they are unsure.
It helps them try again after mistakes.
And slowly, it helps them say:
“Let me try first.” 💪
At Kumon, children study at their just-right level, where the work is matched to their current ability. With the right balance of guidance and challenge, they build confidence, independence and good study habits step by step.
Because the goal is not just to complete today’s worksheet.
It is to help children become learners who can face tomorrow’s challenges with confidence — in school and beyond. 🚀
Save this for the next time your child says, “I don’t know how.”
Sometimes, the best support is giving them space to think before stepping in. 🤍

To all mothers,
some of the greatest love is shown in the smallest moments—
in the waiting, the reminding, the encouraging, and the believing.
This Mother’s Day, we honour the quiet strength and steady love behind every child’s journey.
Happy Mother’s Day. 💙

“I don’t know.”
Many parents hear this… and quickly step in.
Because we care.
We want to help our child get it right.
But in that small moment, something important is happening.
Your child is learning:
👉 Do I try first… or do I wait for help?
“I don’t know” doesn’t always mean they can’t.
Sometimes it means:
“I’m not sure yet.”
“I’m afraid to make a mistake.”
So instead of answering straight away…
pause for a moment.
Gently guide them to:
• think
• try
• take one small step
Even a small attempt matters.
Because confidence doesn’t come from being told.
It grows when a child realises:
👉 “I tried… and I can do it.”
At Kumon, we support children step by step —
so they build the confidence to learn independently, at their own pace.
Small words. Big difference.
