The Population Association of Singapore (PAS) 2026 Annual Conference was held last week at NUS. CFPR was honoured to have co-hosted the special panel titled “Confronting Asia’s Fertility Challenges: Policy Paths for the Future”.

Moderated by CFPR Steering Committee member A/Prof Vincent Chua, the panel brought together experts from Singapore, South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong to discuss the complex drivers of declining fertility across Asia. Speakers highlighted how low fertility is shaped not only by financial costs, but also by delayed marriage, labour market insecurity, housing pressures, gender norms, caregiving expectations, and changing attitudes toward parenthood. The discussion highlights the need for holistic, society-wide policy responses that make family formation more achievable, meaningful, and supported.
