Synopsis:
Many PE educators faced challenges in including students with Autism or Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). We are often torn between catering to the special needs of some of our students without compromising the experience of the majority.
This workshop aims to explore Universal Design Learning and Proactive Differentiated Instruction in a balanced approach to value-add to the PE learning experience in a class of students with diverse needs and range of abilities.
We would like to co-create possibilities to address authentic challenges in schools. It will be conducted in an experiential and problem-based learning approach to enhance the mindset and skillset of participants in conducting Inclusive PE activities. The main focus will be on students with Autism while many of the strategies will also be applicable to students with ADHD.
Note: participants are to be dressed in sports attire.
Brief Introduction of presenter:
Mr John See Toh graduated with a Bachelor of Education (Disability and Health Promotion) from Deakin University, Australia. He then pursued the Master of Education (Special Need) at the National Institute of Education. Mr John See Toh has 30 years of teaching experience in special education and mainstream schools. He is the Chairman of Runninghour Cooperative Limited and has been volunteering with People with Special Needs (PWSN) for 40 years.
