“I’m just stupid.”
Once a student decides they are not smart enough, they stop. They stop asking questions. They stop believing their thoughts are worth saying out loud.
And once that happens, no amount of practice helps.
What I see when a conscious effort is made to ban any derogatory terms used is a completely different student. One who tries even when she is unsure. One who stops comparing his grade to his friend’s and starts asking where he actually went wrong. One who walks into class like she belongs there.
They were never the problem.
They just needed someone to remove the words that convinced them they were.
If your child has said something like this for English, DM me THINK. I’ll share how we do things differently here.

Is your child losing marks in Comprehension Practices without even realising it? These 3 common mistakes could be the reason why, but don't worry they’re easy to fix once you know how to spot them! 😊
✅ Understanding the question – Encourage them to highlight key words so they know exactly what they're being asked.
✅ Staying on track – Identifying the question type helps them use the right skill for each question.
✅ Final check – A quick read through would allow them to avoid any grammatical or spelling errors.
Want to boost your child’s comprehension skills? Join our Comprehension Workshop this June school holidays! This workshop will equip your child with the skills they need to improve their comprehension and tackle any passage with confidence.
