Today, we will be sharing about our elective class held in the Afternoon - Gardening is Fun!

Gardening is Fun! Is held every month with different themes. Last month, our children had a lot of fun planting potatoes.
From choosing their own buds on the potato to putting them into the soil, our children had the full experience of planting their own potato. Many also had the chance to watch earthworms digging through the fertile soil, and understand how the potato growth cycle goes.

Today, we will be sharing about Rainforest Schoolhouse’s Montessori method of education at school. 👩🏻‍🏫🧑🏼‍🏫

Montessori method is a unique teaching approach where children are encouraged to learn and progress at their own will and at their own pace. Children are guided by professionally-trained Montessori directress in the classroom while they discover and delve into the unlimited knowledge of the world. 🌎 Montessori classrooms are uniquely curated with exquisitely crafted Montessori materials designed to support all aspects of any children’s development at any stage. These kinds of classrooms promote a profound understanding of language, mathematics, science, social interactions, and many more. It also caters to every possible essential curiosity that children will bound to have and through these materials, cultivate the children to respond to any real-life situations in the future. 👩🏽‍💻

Rainforest Schoolhouse is proud to have a team of professionally trained Montessori-directress at school, constructing our school’s own unique Montessori curriculum and teaching in class. 👨🏻‍🏫Rainforest Schoolhouse is one of the few schools that boasts multiple complete sets of Montessori materials that are updated frequently on a regular basis. Montessori classes are held every day in the morning Academic program, with occasional Montessori Extension classes held in the afternoon program to strengthen our children’s developmental skills. 💪🏼 Our Montessori classes have a strict student-teacher ratio of 1:8 to assure high standards of learning for each child, each child will also have designated individual time with the teachers during class, so the teachers are fully aware of each student’s current progress and development.

The Montessori program is a very distinctive program that fosters independence and respect for each child. In short, the program stimulates the child’s own desire to learn and teaches the child to be aware of his own speed of progress. 📈 It also further hones the child’s sense of responsibility and pride in what they’re doing, giving them the confidence to pursue what they want to do. Rainforest Schoolhouse strongly believes in the Montessori education and we strive to deliver the best Montessori learning experience for the best development in all children. ❤️

We hope that all of the Children had a fantastic Children’s Day and an enjoyable weekend. 🌟 We are back now to show you how our children at Rainforest Schoolhouse celebrated Children’s Day at school! ❤️

This year’s Children’s Day is also a special one as it falls around the Mid-Autumn Festival 🥮 time period as well, so our school decided to host the celebration of both festivals together! 🌕

Our children first enjoyed their morning carrying their traditional cellophane Lanterns 🐰 around the playgrounds at school to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival. It was a beautiful sight to see our children experience a one-of-a-kind Lantern carrying event that is very difficult to see nowadays, and the children immersing themselves in the festive mood.

Following, our school invited Art professionals to come to school to share more about Art creations and our children had a great time making their own piece of work. 🖼 The teachers taught new styles and techniques of art making and our children sure learnt a lot of new ways to integrate these designs into our usual Art sessions at school!

After creating their own piece of art works, our children proceeded to have a ‘gifting’ session where they received a bag full of goodies 🎁 from the school, the teachers and classmates, to bring home and share with their family! 💓I’m sure our children will have so much fun opening them at home.

Lastly, our special eventful Children’s Day concludes with a special lunch of Yakitori Chicken 🍢skewers specially made by our in-house cooking Aunty. Our children also got to try out Traditional cartoon-character Mooncakes for tea-time on Children’s Day and the children loves the sweet White Lotus Seed filling! 🥮

Bilingualism has always been Singaporean’s competitive edge. Since the introduction of the Bilingual Policy in 1978, Singapore's education system has encouraged students to be proficient in the English Language, and a second language in their own respective mother tongues. At Rainforest Schoolhouse, we have selected Chinese as our second language for our program. As important as English, we have scheduled the same amount of class time for Chinese classes. 🧧

With a multicultural background at Rainforest Schoolhouse, children from all around the world at school have also been having a lot of fun learning the Chinese language. Our teachers specially formulated classes in a lot of interesting and interactive ways to teach our children. From reading Chinese classics to hands-on Calligraphy classes, our children will indulge in the adventurous 6000-years worth of Chinese Language history through our school program.

Did you know that growing up in green spaces 🌴boosts children’s IQ and helps with behavioral development of children? (Article referenced below)

As you’ve seen through our photos, our campus boosts ample lush greenery and our school has planned numerous diversified events to fully utilize these great resources. We have a total of 4 green 🍀fields - 2 with specially designed in-built playgrounds; while the remaining fields are left for multipurpose usage (e.g. Outdoor games, Gardening, Science exploration and many more exciting activities).

Other than scheduled activities in our school’s program, our children are also brought to these playgrounds every morning for some leisure playtime before our academic program starts in the morning. The children will also be playing at different playgrounds every week so they’ll be able to enjoy all the different experiences.

The attached photos are recent activities held at school - Tug-o-war, Golfing, Scooter and Soccer etc.

We love to introduce new games and exercises to our children and we are sure that our children loves it too!

Every month, our school organizes a week dedicated to Water play for all our children. 🚿 Water play happens the first period in the morning for that week, and the children will come to school in their swimming costumes.
In light of the COVID-19 situation, staggered play days for different classes have been implemented to reduce contact between each class, and the staff will also have plenty of time to thoroughly clean and sanitize all equipment before and after games.

The games introduced in the games have been specially developed by the teachers to improve the children’s overall performances. 🤽🏼‍♂️The games will allow the children to practice their fine motor skills, and cognitive skills with the aim to win the game. 🥇Furthermore, the children will also be able to learn about working in a team and hone their social skills to express themselves during the game. Last but not least, it will be a great breather for the children to enjoy Water sports together with their friends during these sensitive times and have as much fun as they can! ❤️

** All event is organised and held with very heightened awareness and implementation of social distancing and personal hygiene. Close physical interactions have been largely reduced or refrained totally between each children during games. All children proceed to shower immediately after water play. All equipment are washed, sanitized and dried thoroughly before and after use by each class. **

This week we will be presenting to all our talented and artistic children! 🖼

Every Wednesday afternoon, the school will be having Art’s Fun class together with our children. 👩🏼‍🎨🧑🏾‍🎨 Art’s Fun is a class where the children will be guided by teachers to create their own unique pieces of artwork freely. The teachers will only provide technical assistance to children when required while the children roam free to design their individualistic Art pieces. 🎨

The theme of each week is correlated to their Montessori Thematic program held in the mornings. Through Art classes, our children are exposed to a new form of learning and creating. 🌈 The children will be able to strengthen their Montessori learnings through the process of creating Art, and encapsulate innovation with imaginations of their minds.
