We pride ourselves in building new and strong relationships with industry partners, collaborating academics, and we will strive to strengthen Singapore Institute of Technology’s reputation for applied learning and translational research into impactful projects.
At Design Factory@SIT, we slowly but steadily document and publish about project outcomes along our way. Partners in our network are so kind to share about their experiences working with us. Here’s a trailer proudly presented by our SIT Digital Communications and Integrated Media (DCIM) students. Stay tuned for our stories!

Impact the Future with Design-Led Innovation

Jarrod Chua, our undergraduate at SIT Digital Communications and Integrated Media programme wrote about us at the end of last year and here's a short extract of his essay:
“”Most people make the mistake of thinking design is what it looks like. People think it’s this veneer that the designers are handed this box and told, ‘Make it look good!’ That’s not what we think the design is. It’s not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.”, said Steve Jobs, who pioneered design thinking at Apple to create well-designed products that disrupted markets. Many organisations follow Apple's methods and recognise the growing importance of design thinking process, and Singapore Institute of Technology is one of them. The Design Factory@SIT, launched in April 2021, exemplifies this by supporting businesses in improving value through human-centred designs and solutions. Design Factory@SIT is the first and only Design Factory in Singapore, a unique node of the 🚀🚀 Design Factory Global Network. 🚀🚀 We are in quite a unique position especially being in an applied research and applied learning university. We also wish to carry the Singapore flag higher. “ 🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬
Jarrod Chua also created this wonderful journey map for us. I'm super proud we have very talented students here with us in our quest for innovation!

A prescription for innovative healthcare will allow, by next year, students and faculty members from the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) to work with staff from SingHealth to develop solutions. The partnership is facilitated by SingHealth’s Medical Technology Office, SIT’s Applied Research Office and Design Factory@SIT. Once SIT’s campus in Punggol Digital District is operational in two years, Sengkang and Punggol towns will act as a living laboratory for the university’s staff and faculty to roll out healthcare solutions.

Design thinking has opened up doors. It made people aware of the power of design when it comes to innovation and complex problem-solving. Design thinking is not just for non-designers to get closer to design, but also designed for designers to get closer to business thinking. At Design Factory, we work closely with designers and technologists, to be the one-stop shop that helps businesses move up the innovation value chain by providing design innovation and experimentation expertise.
