SSDB 2021 - Stay Connected, Make a Difference
Theme: Greens for Means
Throw back to our SSDB Launch Party last week! West Terra is fortunate to be nestle among lush greeneries. The teachers and children had a discussion what they want to do to contribute back to the community in this difficult times.
Our project title this year is “Greens for Means” where children will explore and experience planting seeds of produces. This is our second year that we will be working with bollywood veggies. We aim to be able to share our produce with our school community and our neighbours!
Children were very excited about the Launch Party, especially when opening up the package and were curious about what is awaiting them in the project. We had a discussion for children to share their thoughts about the project and to also let them have an idea of what to expect in the upcoming weeks.
This year, we would like to use Gardening as a way to inculcate the value of responsibility and connecting with the natural environment. Looking forward to our first harvest!

Learning Journey to Art Loft
As mentioned in the previous post, the focus for term 2 Fun Friday is on elements of Art and works of various artist.
To supplement their learning, we made a trip down to Art Loft. Their belief is build on helping the children to focus on the process of creation and asking open ended questions to stimulate their thinking rather than end product. The children experimented with different art technique such as foam printing, silkscreen printing and marbling technique. They were too introduced to child friendly batik painting and explored the history of batik art!
Art is not simply just about drawing and colouring. It trained the children to look things at different perspective such as the use of materials, colours, shapes, technique & etc...
We would like to thank Art Loft for giving the children such a fun and valuable experience.

Picture Smart | Body Smart
During Term 2, Fun Friday, the main focus is on exploration of famous artist and their works.
The K2 children began their art exploration on Wassily Kandinsky's creation by discussing about different sizes while focusing on the shape , Circle.
They identified the 3 sizes that are commonly used which are small, medium and big. And beyond that they had also revisited the different types of colours, primary and secondary.
Using the elements of size, colours and patterns, they created their very own interpretation of the art piece, Concentric Circles.

March 20 has been established as the annual International Day of Happiness
The teachers dedicated a week to celebrate this important day. The celebration of happiness is a conscious choice to be happy and the well being of yourself and others.
Expressing happiness can be very simple.
Through the story on "The Jar of Happiness" is a sweet story about a little girl who concocts a potion for happiness and carries it around to share with the people in her life. When she loses the jar, those same people show her that happiness does not come from a jar.
The children express their happiness through different ways. Some of them relate happiness through colours.
For Wellness Wednesday, some children relate happiness to doing exercise, yoga & simply being active.
For Freedom Friday, some children relate happiness to doing art & craft, doing the things that they like and make them happy.
Happiness can be simple. So what is your definition of happiness?
