P6 Science (Topic: Adaptations)
My P6 students recently started learning about **Adaptations**. One of the first concepts they learnt was the difference between **structural** and **behavioural adaptations**.
At the end of the lesson, I organised a mini competition โ Boys vs Girls! ๐
They had to define both types of adaptations and recall as many examples for each type of adaptation as they could from the lesson.
The winning team went home with some yummy snacks ๐ซ๐

P5 & P6 English โ๏ธ
When writing compositions, many students tend to use very simple sentences that do not make their writing engaging or descriptive.
In a recent lesson, my upper primary students learnt how to show and not tell. They explored descriptive phrases and even came up with their own ways to describe emotions, people and scenes.
It was wonderful seeing their creativity shine through their writing ๐

My P3 students learnt about **onomatopoeia** โ sound words as an introduction technique for composition writing โ๏ธ
To introduce the topic, I played a video and tasked them to identify and write down as many sound words as they could hear. They did a brilliant job spotting the different sounds! ๐
Using onomatopoeia in compositions helps to make writing more lively, engaging and descriptive ๐
Here's the link to the video that I played for them.

My P4 students are currently learning angles ๐
Some common challenges include using a protractor accurately and drawing angles correctly. During a recent practice, students had hands-on experience with on-the-spot guidance and correction.
This helped boost their confidence and strengthened their understanding of the topic ๐

My P5 students used Unifix cubes to build different solid figures, then drew the top, side and front views on square grids.
Using manipulatives helped them better understand how solids look from different directions, making learning more concrete and meaningful.

One of the most important skills students need to develop is time management. Students sitting for major exams must learn how much time to allocate to each question.
Very often, I hear, โCher, I didnโt have time to finish the 4-mark question at the end.โ
That is why I always run a timer on the screen during practice. It helps students stay aware of time and trains them to complete their work within the given time. โฑ๏ธ

My P3 students learnt about question tags today.
They discovered that when a statement is positive, the tag is negative:
For example, "We are travelling next month, arenโt we?"
And when a statement is negative, the tag becomes positive:
For example, "He hasnโt done his homework, has he?"
They also did a matching activity, pairing statements with the correct question tags to reinforce their learning. ๐

My P5s have just started on the topic of Area of Triangles.
One of the first challenges students face is identifying the correct base and corresponding height.
To tackle this, we did a simple but engaging hands-on activity where students practised drawing in the height and identifying the base on different types of triangles.
They learnt that height must always be perpendicular to the base (even if it falls outside the triangle!).
This small element of interaction and exploration turned what could have been a โboringโ maths lesson into a more engaging and meaningful one.

My P6 students have started learning about Forces, and this week we focused on frictional force. To reinforce their understanding, I asked them to create a mind map of what they learned.
๐ง Mind mapping is a great way to capture ideas visually. It helps students:
โ Organise key concepts clearly
โ See connections between ideas
โ Remember important information better
โ Prepare effectively for exams
Instead of memorising notes, students learn to think and organise their knowledge, which is an important PSLE skill.
Here is a snapshot of what was done in class!

P6 English Oral Practice in Class
My P6 students had a meaningful practice in Reading Aloud and Stimulus-Based Conversation (SBC) on the topic of Technology and Digital Addiction.
To deepen their thinking, I shared a recent Straits Times article titled โNo smartphone use in secondary schools from 2026, including during recess and CCAs.โ
https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/parenting-education/no-phone-use-in-secondary-schools-from-2026-including-during-recess-and-ccas?close=true
I then asked them, โDo you agree with this new rule being implemented in schools? Why or why not?โ
This simple yet powerful question sparked thoughtful responses, different perspectives, and a meaningful discussion.
๐ก A gentle reminder to parents:
You donโt have to wait until oral exam season to practise speaking skills. Everyday news, current affairs, and daily happenings are wonderful opportunities to build your childโs conversation skills, critical thinking, and confidence in speaking.
Try asking open-ended questions at home and encourage your child to share their thoughts. Little conversations today can make a big difference tomorrow.
