Aging is a big topic widely discussed lately. One of the objectives of the recently launched Healthier SG initiative is to address the issue of aging as well. Inevitably, along with aging is a slew of health and fitness issues. Despite advances in medical science, we cannot reverse aging but it is possible to slow it down. I believe that there is a difference between being healthy versus being fit. To me, the former refers to the absence of illnesses while the latter refers to the ability to carry out activities for daily living and moderate level of exercise without extreme fatigue. Staying healthy is a function of many factors: nutrition, lifestyle, genetics, environment etc. Whilst some factors are controllable, some are beyond our control. On the other side, fitness is something we manage and control. No doubt, life here is hectic and fast-paced. It presents an excellent excuse for us to be physically inactive. In actuality, no one will dispute the benefits of regular physical activity. Hence, it voices down to self- discipline. If you want to do it, you will find the time to do so.
