Home | NIEWS #136 Education research fulfils its true purpose when it drives meaningful change. In this issue, we celebrate researchers and educators who translate evidence into action, creating lasting impact in classrooms, schools and communities.

A meaningful evening with the Alumni Association tonight as we discussed how we can strengthen our impact on the NIE community and wider alumni network.

One member aptly quoted NIE’s “life-long, life-deep, life-wide and life-wise” (“4-Life”) philosophy — proof that we as educators and alumni members really do pay attention in class 😄. More importantly, it reminded us that learning, service, and impact should continue well beyond graduation.

From scaling our new Telegram community for student teachers, to exploring potential initiatives such as bullying resilience workshops, fireside chats, AI in Education discussions, and stronger outreach to overseas alumni and NIE alumni chapters — many exciting ideas are in the works.

We all remember those who helped us when we were just starting out as educators.

The NIE Alumni Association has soft-launched a Telegram community to connect experienced educators with student teachers and newer educators, in support of mentorship, exchange, and professional growth within Singapore’s education sector.

Whether you are looking for guidance, hoping to learn from others, or keen to give back, we hope this community will be a meaningful and supportive space.

What’s the first thing you want to do after a long day at work?

For the NTU NIE Alumni Committee, the obvious answer is… to meet up and discuss new initiatives to further empower our alumni community! 😆

We just wrapped up our committee meeting tonight, and that’s honestly how passionate everyone is about giving back to the NIE community.

Some of the initiatives we discussed include:
• Supporting incoming NIE students by connecting them with alumni mentors
• Strengthening ties with overseas NIE alumni groups
• Potential collaborations with local charities to contribute to social good

🏃‍♂️✨ Best Foot Forward 2026 is off to a strong start!

More than 500 participants flagged off at X Campus Run on 6 February, launching our annual fundraising challenge — and we’ve already hit 1,300+ participants, surpassing last year’s numbers!

With NBS, NIE and EEE leading the schools, and NBS Kakis topping the teams’ leaderboard, the momentum is building fast.

Excellence does not always come with headlines.
Sometimes, it is found in the classroom that quietly transforms lives.

In the research that reshapes practice.

In the leader who steadies a team through uncertainty.

In the alumnus who serves the community without seeking recognition.

If someone comes to mind — nominate them.

They may be:

As the alumni commiteee, we often ask ourselves: How can the association create even more value for our alumni, many of whom are making a real impact on education in Singapore?

With a community of over 50,000 strong, we truly believe there is so much more we can do to support our educators and positively influence the education landscape.
