Ning's kindy has planned for a couple of 'canteen experience' days to prepare the children for primary school life. 寧的幼儿园安排了几天的“食堂体验”，让孩子们为小学生活做好准备。

Children have a lot to learn about personal finance and money management. The 'canteen experience' presented an opportunity for us to teach Ning the art of bookkeeping. Using an exercise book, Papa came up with a simple format and taught Ning how to keep track of her allowance, expenses and savings. 童年是培养良好个人理财习惯的最好时机。记账是一切理财工作的基础，可以让孩子了解钱究竟花到了哪儿，找出不必要的开销项目，改善消费习惯。于是，爸爸利用练习本，想出了一个简单的格式，教寧如何记录她的零用钱、开支和储蓄。

Keeping a ledger can be a fun and practical way to teach kids basic accounting skills and a bit of economics. Ning is definitely relishing the chance to save her pennies! (^_^)v 滨海湾之旅 Marina Bay Walking Tour

The girls had a blast touring the Marina Bay area earlier in the day! Thank goodness for brilliant weather, we walked from Raffles Place to the Merlion Park, Esplanade, past The Float @ Marina Bay, to Singapore Flyer and then the Helix Bridge. A very manageable distance for our little ones with short legs!

寜和蓉第一次使用儿童相机，还挺上手的。只是只有一架相机，所以她们必须分享。虽然刚开始时闹别扭，争着用，但是经过商量协议后，都同意轮流使用！(We aren’t going to get them one each so bobian, they need to learn to share!)

寜和蓉懂得预先通知，让对方做好心理准备，才不会因为突然要“割爱”而闹得不愉快。

今年国庆的气氛锐减了不少，但听着浮动舞台国庆典礼彩排时播的爱国歌曲，孩子们也跟着哼唱起来(woo oh oh oh~ oh oh oh~ 🙈)。很有意思！

🍕Pizza Needs & Wants🍕

YN and YR learnt about needs and wants through making a pizza. We can’t do without some ESSENTIAL (需要) ingredients, such as the pizza sauce and CHEESE, when making a pizza. There also has to be sufficient cheese, which acts as a ‘glue’, or else the toppings will fall off the pizza!

All other toppings which go onto a pizza are variables (想要) and represent our WANTS. It makes YN and YR very hApPy when they have tons of pepperoni on their pizzas.

✨Needs Versus Wants ✨

Financial literacy is an important part of family education. While every family will approach this differently, we can begin by introducing the concept of “needs versus wants”. 金钱教育是家庭教育重要的一环。培养幼儿的金钱观可从区分“想要”和“需要”开始。

For really young children, they may find it hard to understand the difference between needs and wants. For instance, my children will tell me toys are needs! Well, they aren’t exactly wrong about that... it’s just that not ALL toys are needs and they need to pick out appropriate and suitable ones. Am I going to play this toy frequently? Is it very important to me? What will the consequences be if I didn’t have this toy? These are some questions children can consider before they (or rather, parents 😆) commit to a purchase. 幼儿们可能有时候分不清什么是需要，什么是想要。我的孩子可会很认真地说玩具是需要！其实她们也没有不对，玩对幼儿各方面的发展非常重要！只是在众多玩具当中，我们的顾虑是必须慎选适合的。也须想想用到此物的频率有多少？很重要吗？没买的话，会产生什么后果呢？

By discussing “what does this mean to me”, we can help our children tease out the true needs from their many wants. Practice makes perfect! Having these conversations early give our children many opportunities to participate in the decision-making process of a purchase and they will learn to distinguish needs from wants. 和幼儿讨论“这东西对我有什么意义”可助他们学习从“想要”的事物中挑出真正“需要”的。反复的讨论会让幼儿们渐渐学会判断想买的东西是想要还是需要。

👩‍🍳What my girls and I learnt in the kitchen 👩‍🍳

Messed around with the girls in the kitchen today as we did meal preparation and we formed the word ‘菜’. Some googling revealed how the character came to look the way it is today (swipe to last picture). And then I learnt about 形声字 for the first time ever! There are two parts to pictophonetic characters - one part gives it meaning and the other part indicates its sound.

(Not that my girls are able to appreciate these info currently...)

Anyway! It’s easier for little hands to do simple cutting when we precut the ingredients. Over here, I cut the capsicum and the carrot into strips (条状) for them to dice them (切成粒状). We want to encourage them to be involved in meal preps, so bite-sized tasks like this help a lot! YN is a chatty one who tells us things like “我切的这灯笼椒粒好像蝴蝶！” ......okay.

It was rice cooker paella for dinner tonight!! 😋
