Reflecting on Student Perspectives: "Spare the Rod, Spoil the Child" ✍️

This week, our composition writing topic has sparked some surprising discussions: "Spare the rod, spoil the child," particularly in relation to corporal punishment.

During our initial warm-up, I asked the students for their thoughts on this statement. To my surprise, almost all of them agreed that not sparing the rod is important. However, they emphasised the need for a balance with other disciplinary strategies.

It's fascinating to see how these young minds are navigating such a complex issue. They recognize that while discipline is necessary, it shouldn’t solely rely on physical punishment. But again, the objective is to create argumentative response, therefore, they need to take a stance whether a YES or a NO.

Looking forward to seeing how their argumentative essays develop!
