In this research, we build a game-theoretic model to capture the decisions and interactions of an attacker and multiple miners during the process of a double-spend attack. Our model incorporates a factor that miners could have additional preferences to keep the blockchain system secure, beyond the mining rewards. As an ecosystem, a blockchain's users may have businesses and investments dependent on its security and therefore they may support or even become miners to ensure the security, which generates the miners' additional preferences. With our model, we explain why P + epsilon attacks are not widely observed and provide insights on how to design a public blockchain such that it is more secure.
