Building Engagement Skills for Social Development.

When a parent approaches me with concerns about their child, the first essential skill I look at is engagement. Engagement is the key that unlocks meaningful learning.

Through my years as an Occupational Therapist, I’ve come to deeply understand the vital role that engagement skills play in a child’s development. Engagement taps into a child’s natural drive to connect, learn, and interact, laying a foundation for social growth. When children feel genuinely motivated and excited to participate, their learning becomes more impactful, and their social connections become more authentic and lasting.

Instead of simply teaching skills, I focus on fostering engagement through activities tailored to each child’s interests, such as interactive play and role-playing. This approach empowers children to develop social skills naturally, building confidence and motivation to engage and learn from their surroundings.
