We are delighted to share a glimpse of yesterday’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between RHT Legal Training Institute and Singapore Management University (SMU Academy and SMU Law Academy).

The signing of the MoU aims to provide young lawyers the best training possible for real-life practice and prepare them for the Part A of the Singapore Bar Examinations.

Part A Bar Course 2nd session will commence on 8 August, 2022. Registration is still open.

The Singapore Management University (SMU) and RHT Legal Training Institute (RHT LTI) will be launching a joint course to prepare candidates for Part A of the Singapore Bar Examinations. It is the first-ever collaboration between an autonomous university and private education institute to offer the Part A Examination preparatory course. It combines and replaces the two preparatory courses formerly offered separately by SMU Law Academy (SMULA) and RHT LTI: the SMULA Part A Examination Preparation Programme and the Part A Bar Course respectively.

A Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony will be held at on 21 July 2022, 10am at the SMU Yong Pung How School of Law (YPHSL) to formalise the landmark collaboration between SMU and RHT LTI.

The joint Part A course will commence in August 2022. It is planned to run twice a year, comprising 8 three-hour lessons per subject for a total of 120 contact hours per run. It will be offered online, giving participants more flexibility to attend especially if they are currently studying or working outside of Singapore.

One of the subjects included in RHT LTI’s Part A Bar Course is the Singapore Legal System. Noted constitutional expert, Dr. Kevin YL Tan, subject instructor for Singapore Legal System will discuss how Singapore law has departed from its English origins in both application and development. Broken into three parts, this class will cover the origins of Singapore’s legal system, discuss the autochthonous aspects of Singapore law as well as the future of the Singapore legal landscape.

Company Law and Criminal Law have been the subjects with highest number of failures in the Part A Bar exam.

Course Fees: SGD 3,000 for 5 subjects (no GST)
Course Module: Eight three-hour sessions for each of the five subjects, viz, Company Law, Criminal Law, Land Law, Singapore Legal System, and Evidence Law.

The Part A Bar Course is designed to familiarize graduates of Overseas Scheduled Universities with Singapore law so that they can confidently sit for the examination and practice in Singapore. Candidates will be taught not only the principles of the law but also how the law applies in practice.

Part A Bar Course details are as follows:
Course run: 7 Feb ’22 – 1 Apr ’22 | 5:00pm – 8:00pm
Course Fee: $3,000
Mode of instruction: Classes will be held ONLINE
Course content: There will be eight three-hour sessions for each of the five subjects, viz, Company Law, Criminal Law, Land Law, Evidence Law and Singapore Legal System.
