At our Primary 1 Preparatory Programme, one of our objectives is to prepare the children to be academically-ready for primary schools.
At the same time, we aim to inculcate keen learning attitudes in the children and mould them into lifelong confident learners.
How can we achieve that?
- We develop purposeful, engaging and interactive activities that will intrigue the children’s learning interests
- We curate the curriculum to suit each child’s learning needs and development

Join us every Friday morning for a fun and engaging lesson that will tickle your children’s senses! 😎
Children will be given time to explore each activity. This allows them to experience, discover and experiment with the activity and materials at their own pace.
Topics related to the children’s daily lives and general knowledge will be explained to them in an interactive manner to help them understand better.
Through participating in various activities such as singing of songs and engaging in hands-on activities, children will learn basic literacy and numeracy concepts to build a strong foundation.
Music and movement, sensory and life skills activities will hone the development of their fine and gross motor skills.

It’s all about injecting fun elements into the mundane learning of concepts at the Primary 1 Preparatory Programme!
The class begins with some light-hearted conversations for us to warm-up to one another, sharing about the fun we had over the weekends or any exciting upcoming events! Through the conversation, the educator can
correct sentence structure and give suggestions naturally and subtly to the child. This will help to build a confident and fluent speaker through improving their oral communication.
Children will be moving between floor and table activities to keep their mind engaged and muscles moving instead of keeping to a posture for too long. Introduction and revision of concepts will be done through a fun and interactive manner to stimulate the brain and to promote greater retention of knowledge.
At the end of each session, learning will be supported and strengthened through completing relevant worksheets or workbooks.

As parents and educators, we often ponder over this question - How do I make language learning interesting to a child?
Listening:
Sing along with your child! Music engages children of all ages and they will pick up vocabulary words through singing the lyrics.
Follow-up activity: Select a few words from the lyrics and excite your child to guess where they have heard the word from. Thereafter, explain the meaning of the words to your child.
Speaking:
Children learn from their daily experiences. Hence, use proper, simple words when communicating with your child. Short and concise sentences will help your child understand better. Give your child time to express his or her ideas and reiterate to provide affirmation. Encourage your child to repeat the words or phrases after you if they need help.
Reading:
Reading books to your children will boost their imagination and creativity! It helps to cultivate a lifelong love of reading in children and creates a special bond between parents and their children. Reading supports the cognitive development of your child and strengthens their language skills.
Writing:
Create inviting activities to excite your child into writing:
- Give them a twig and invite them to write on the sand (draw shapes if you want too!)
- Use playdough to form lines and paste on letters printouts. Encourage your children to use their fingers to trace the playdough
- Engage your child in dot painting using letters printouts

Teaching numeracy concepts to your children do not have to be rigid and mundane.
Tip 1:
You can set up learning corners at home with materials easily accessible by your children. Let them take charge of their learning and work with what interests them. Engage in purposeful play and strike meaning conversations with your children while they are working with the materials i.e. point out the different shapes, colours. Be creative and support their learning process by suggesting another material that they can use together too!
Tip 2:
Extend their learning by demonstrating to them how you can use the same material in another way e.g. stack up the blocks and count how many they can stack before it falls over. Through this extension activity, the children will learn about spatial awareness and engage in counting!
Tip 3:
When you are out with your children, excite them to identify the different shapes, numbers and colours together with you! You will be surprised how getting your children to pay more attention to their surroundings can help in their learning experience!
Tip 4:
Help your children connect and make sense of their learning experiences e.g. when they are engaging in mark making on the whiteboard with a marker, direct their attention to other writing instruments such as crayons and colour pencils and show them how they can create patterns on paper too!

Giving children a creative outlet is beneficial to their overall well-being and provides them with opportunities to express themselves.
Engaging your children in Art and Craft activities has many enriching benefits:
⭐️ help children develop and hone their fine motor skills
⭐️ boost cognitive development
⭐️ encourage creative thinking and problem solving skills
⭐️ improve self-expression and self-esteem
⭐️ build on their learning experiences acquire from other subjects
⭐️ enhance developmental growth by learning new skills
There are many simple and fun Art and Craft activities you can do together with your children:
🎨 paper collage
🎨 fingers and hands painting
🎨 sponge painting
🎨 using recycled materials i.e. paper towel roll and boxes to create a 3D craft (house or robot)
You can be creative and come up with new ideas with your children too! Do display your children’s artwork to motivate them and to show them that you appreciate and value their effort! 👏🏻

Jean Piaget, a Swiss psychologist known for his work on child development, proposed that children need environmental stimuli and experiences to guide their cognitive development. This can be achieved through “Sensory play”.
Sensory play includes activities that engages any of your child’s senses - touch, smell, sight, sound and taste. It also extends to movement, balance, and spatial awareness. Each new experience they have with a different sense builds nerve connections that grow the architecture of their brain.
Sensory play does not have to be complicated! You can use materials found at home. Strike a conversation with your children while they are at play to enhance their learning experiences!
A simple question like “How many cups of water did you use to fill up this bottle?” will…
👍🏻 broaden your child’s vocabulary
👍🏻 introduce math concepts i.e. counting
👍🏻 stimulate your child’s memory skill
👍🏻 create opportunities for extended learning moments i.e. making prediction when using other tools to fill up the bottle
