Tina Nguyen is the choral conductor and music instructor at Cantus Novus Music Academy. Tina grew up in the state of South Carolina in the United States and has loved music ever since she was a child. She began playing the piano at the age of five and sang her first solo at the age of six. After graduating magna cm laude with her BS degree in Music Education (Voice) in 2009, she went on to pursue

a master's degree in Church Music (Voice and Composition) and recently graduated in May 2016. Tina has many years of experience as a performer, both as a soloist and choir member. She has performed in multiple recitals, masterclasses, and large-scale productions. In 2012 and 2013, she was a voice finalist in Bob Jones University’s Annual Music Contests. She was a chorus member in Verdi's "Il Trovatore" (2012), Verdi's "Requiem" (2014), and Handel's "Messiah" (2014), as well as soprano soloist in Mozart's "Missa Brevis" with BJU's University Singers (2015). She was a member of the Chorale and Chamber Singers, BJU's two premiere choral organizations. In 2016, she joined the Rivertree Singers and Friends concert in a large-scale performance of Dan Forrest's newest work, "Jubilate Deo." Tina is an avid composer and has written over 20 different musical works, ranging from simple instrumental or vocal pieces to more complex works for a large ensemble of performing forces. In 2016, her composition studies culminated in a 60-minute performance of a work for choir, orchestra, and soloists entitled "Paradise Lost, Redemption Gained." Tina also has experience as a teacher, both in the classroom and private studio. During her student teaching experience at Mauldin Elementary School, she supervised and instructed over 600 students in 23 separate sections. She has given private voice lessons and taught group voice classes to over sixty secondary and university students. At Cantus Novus, we are dedicated to achieving musical excellence that is rooted in heartfelt enjoyment of the art. We offer classical vocal lessons (group and individual), piano lessons (grades 1-5), hymnplaying lessons, composition lessons, and music theory courses. We use Grace Independent Baptist Church as our teaching venue (conveniently located within walking distance of Simei MRT and directly across from the Simei ITE).

Special memories from LUX ✨🎵

We had a lovely evening celebrating the gift of music in this beautiful space. 🎵

Shannen Pacis and Hannah Hoy, two long-time Cantus Novus students, presented their senior vocal and piano recitals. We are so proud of their hard work and are cheering them on as they commence their university music degrees overseas later this year! 🙌🏼

Our choirs, accompanied by Priscilla Fong and Paton Ngian and conducted, then wrapped up the evening with a diverse choral program based on the theme of light! ✨

Congratulations to all our performers for a job well done. Soli Deo Gloria! 🙏🏼

Join us for our annual performance at The Arts House (Chamber Room) on 11 April 2025 at 7PM for ✨LUX✨, a collection of songs on the theme of light performed by the Cantus Novus Choirs!

We will also be having two senior recitals by Shannen Pacis (voice) and Hannah Hoy (piano), featuring a wide assortment of repertoire by Bach, Debussy, Saint-Saëns, Mozart and Lloyd-Webber.
