🎺 For the past two years, the pandemic has disrupted wind band activities in Singapore and Asia in particular. Hence, it is important for us to lead the resumption of wind band development while providing the opportunity for all to make music in a safe way.

In addition to the Band category, the newly curated Ensemble category at SIBF 2022 aims to allow musicians to collaborate, share ideas and strive for excellence together. Each musician’s voice in the ensemble is equally important as no doubling is required and both musical and social skills are encouraged in this setting. Musicians may perform works from classical to contemporary works written for ensembles. This platform provides an invaluable platform for musicians to explore the artistry of chamber music and showcase their talents in a more intimate setting!

The 8th SIBF will take place from 26 to 31 July 2022 with the following programmes:

• Competition for Wind Bands
• Competition for Ensembles
• Workshops with Adjudicators
• Winners’ Concert & Award Ceremony at Esplanade Concert Hall

Wind bands worldwide are facing challenges due to the safety precautions of the COVID-19 virus, and “making music together” may be what is missed the most. In some countries, governments have introduced protocols that allow bands to make music at an appropriate distance from each other. For most bands, it’s impossible to play together as full ensemble, which makes smaller group rehearsals necessary as the remaining alternative.

Adams Percussion challenged the Dutch composer Christiaan Janssen to present an innovative work for wind band: a composition with three different layers which can be performed separately as ensemble pieces, and later – when a full ensemble is allowed – can be played together to form a completely new piece of music. Curious? Watch and participate!

The online premiere will take place on Saturday, 5 September at 14:00 and can be viewed via live stream on the social media channels of the undersigned. After the live show, both the sheet music as well the audio recordings are available to download for free, giving wind bands worldwide the opportunity to work with the piece.
