End of Year Appraisal of myself…

Today is my 50th Birthday! Since I have officially left my corporate life, I thought of a personal appraisal of the last one year - highlighting some achievements and regrets. This will hopefully keep myself accountable to constantly improving myself.

Health and Wellness : A+
I managed to maintained my weight loss for > 1 year! I kept up with my 15k steps a day, 11km a day. I took only 2 meals a day and controlled my carbs intake for most of my meals (minus some regretful cheating). I started on skin care products: stole some Sulwhasoo from Bee Yee and bought some Korean ones like Dermafix & AHC and they worked like magic. I went for three laser treatments to zap my sunspots (only about 50% reduction). Did a super painful and expensive hair transplantation.
The outcome of all these is a much healthier, younger and happier Loo. Sounds super vain? Yes… Ha Ha….

Business - Expansion and Diversification : A

Premiummall has branched into Skincare / Apparels / Watches / Jewellery. We also expanded our sourcing into Korea. Funny that, uncle me now sell La Mer and Sulwhasoo during live streaming. It is more exciting for me and Bee yee to branch into new genres and countries. 8years with Handbags have lost some of its novelty for me.

Accss Digital Media has moved into our new office. It has expanded to 31 staff, and we have expanded geographically into Malaysia. We are now a trusted Govt digital media agency, serving many ministries. Can’t do it without the co-founders Francis, Dorothy and Gerry. Well Done team!

I am trying to expanding into two more businesses and hope that by next year I can report some success in this front.

1M65 - Rapid Scaling : A+
I have scaled up the 1M65 movement many folds, leveraging on Premiummall and 1M65 Social media reach! Hundreds of thousands of People have now heard the 1M65 message and many are now financially savvier and wiser. Many Lives and families are now transformed. The Financial Movement is morphing from an educational movement into a transformational movement. Instead of simply feeding the mind, we are now transforming the lives and hearts of people. I will be moving much more into in person conferences and talks soon.

Upskilling Myself - Live Selling : B
I started live-selling. Initially I hated it, had an allergy touching women handbags. Liveselling seemed so alien to me. Learning a new skill at 49 is really not easy, but like most skills, you have to do it to learn it. Today I am happily selling handbags, shoes, skin care and apparels. Not quite accomplished in it yet compared to many live-streamers but I think I can give myself a B… Will try to improve to an B+ / A- by next year.

Family - Bee Yee and Kids : A
Bee Yee and I started the transition of my children into Entrepreneurs. Kate went thru a very enriching 7 months journey with us in Premiummall, on the job training with us in Europe / Korea. Fantastic transformation. Very proud of her rising to the occasion. Ben did fantastically for his “A” levels and now in OCS, very learning well leadership, mental and physical toughness. I started bringing them to business meeting and lunches/ dinner, exposing them to business. They are doing very well. Emily is now working hard on her A levels. once that is over, we will start her on this journey too.

Investment - Market Crash : C

Very few investors escaped the bloodbath on Wall Street. Fortunately, the financial safety net and cash that we accumulated cushioned the blow. Nevertheless, I continued to invested incrementally during this crash - close to S$1M by now. Some might critique that I didn’t catch the lowest point, went in too early. It is ok lah….. it is better to be a year early than to be a month too late for long term investment.

Some regrets - F
I overstretched myself physically and sustained serious hip and back injuries. Thought that I was super man with my weight loss and ran 45mins to 1 hour a day. After 4 months, my body collapsed, and now I can only walk. NB.

Too much time spent travelling. Many a times, I really missed my kids, despite the frequent phone calls and video calls.

Missed out a lot on social life. A very good friend passed away and I wasn’t there. Some relatives fell sick and I wasn’t there. Two of my mentees lost a lot of money in Gamestop / Crypto mania and I felt responsible not being there to coach them closely. Felt bad. Really bad

You win some, you lose some. That’s life. I came to realise one cannot have a life without regrets. There are trade offs to make for every win in your life. Life is often a struggle to balance a See-saw that is impossible to balance.

Do not give up or be too disappointed if your returns are not as great as you expect them to be because the amount of effort you put in today will translate to your gains in the future.

By not planning, we may end up bearing the cost for future burdens. So start preparing today to be ready for anything that might come in your way.

One can spend years building sandcastles in the air. But being able to execute your plans to reach your goal is where the real thing begins.
