Exam season in Singapore be like… 😵‍💫📚

Suddenly the TYS comes out, group chats turn serious, highlighters are everywhere… and somehow your sleep schedule disappears too. 😭

A small reminder for exam season: don’t just study longer — study smarter. Focus on the topics you’re weakest at, practise with purpose, and ask for help early when something still doesn’t click.

Will PSLE or DSA be scrapped? 👀

Not so fast.

Singapore’s Ministry of Education says it will take a closer look at PSLE, DSA and school choice, especially because the transition from primary to secondary school is where students face some of the highest pressure.

But scrapping PSLE or DSA completely may not solve the problem.

Second Minister for Education David Neo said removing PSLE could simply shift competition elsewhere — such as P1 admissions — while removing DSA could push even more pressure back onto academic results.

For now, PSLE and DSA are staying.�But changes to reduce the education “arms race” could still be on the table.

We take the MRT almost every day — but some of its smallest design details actually have a purpose.

Here are 4 little things you may have seen before, but never really thought about:

🪟 1. Privacy windows�On some elevated sections, train windows may turn frosted or opaque when the train passes close to residential buildings.�The idea is simple: give nearby residents more privacy without blocking the view for the entire journey.

💺 2. Why are some seats different colours?�The different seat colours are not always just decorative.�They can also act as visual reference points, making it easier to describe where someone is located inside the carriage — especially when staff or emergency responders need to identify a location quickly.

⚡ 3. Escalators don’t always run at exactly the same speed�Depending on passenger flow and usage, escalator operations can be adjusted.�During quieter periods, slower operation may help reduce energy use, while busier periods may require a different operating speed to support smoother crowd movement.

🚨 4. Those flashing lights have a purpose�Visual signals around train doors and station areas can help communicate door movement, direction or other information visually.�This is especially important for commuters who may not be able to rely on audio announcements alone.
