Kiruna is famous for climbing Kebnekaise, dogsledding and watching the auroras, but did you know that it is also home to important Swedish research facilities?

If you are interested in all things space, you will be excited to hear about our next event. Welcome to EStER’s excursion to IRF Swedish Institute of Space Physics, LTU Luleå Tekniska University, and more!

During the course of three days, you will be able to visit the IRF institute where you can learn more about the space research that is being done in Kiruna. You will also have an opportunity to network with students and researchers at LTU and learn more about how it is like studying up in the far north! IRF is a governmental research institute that conducts research in the areas space physics, atmospheric physics and space technology. If you look about to the sky right now, there is a chance that one of IRF:s instruments passes right by you in orbit! LTU in Kiruna is home to the space department of the university where students study space technology and atmospheric science right in the heart of one of Europe’s finest space development centers. If the weather permits, we will also be able to see northern lights!

The registration fee is 500 SEK, and we will cover the train cost to and from Stockholm, housing, food, travel within Kiruna, and more. Remember to bring your warmest clothes and sign up soon since there is a limited amount of places for the trip!

The deadline for registration is 26 November.
The trip starts on 17/1 in the evening by getting on a night train from Stockholm Central to Kiruna. We will then arrive at Kiruna in the morning of 18/1 and stay there until 20/1, when we leave with a night train and arrive in Stockholm in the morning of 21/1.

This means that no matter what area of STEM you are interested in, you will be sure to find relevant information and tips from this event. What if robots could help us with everyday chores like cooking, cleaning or doing laundry? These are the possibilities that Professor Danica Kragić is actively pursuing through her research.

In collaboration with the Study Board of the Computer Science Chapter, EStER is hosting a lunch lecture with Professor Danica Kragić who will talk about her research in computer vision and machine learning. She will also talk about how and why she became a researcher. Professor Danica Kragić is highly accomplished in her field of research, and her research has been granted prestigious funds from foundations such as the Knut and Wallenberg Foundation.

This event is both for those of you who are interested in robotics, computer vision and machine learning as well as those of you who are interested in what a research career path might look like.
